Caldwell defeats Bridgeport Bulldogs for the Class 2A title
ELM GROVE — In what might be the longest OVAC Tom Bechtel Softball Championship Game in the history of the event, Caldwell defeated Bridgeport, 6-2, to win the Class 2A title Friday night on Lisa’s Field at the I-470 J.B. Chambers Complex.
The top-seeded Redskins led 6-0 in the bottom of the sixth on Monday when inclement weather forced a suspension of the game. It was resumed from where it left off.
Caldwell took advantage of six errors by the second-seeded Bulldogs before the weather turned bad.
Bridgeport’s Vanessa Mullen drilled a two-run homer in the top of the seventh to keep the Bulldogs from being blanked.
Mikayla Mumaw struck out 10, walked one and yielded four hits.
