ST. CLAIRSVILLE — One step down. One more to go.

That’s the motto of several Eastern Ohio track and field athletes as they punched their tickets to Ohio Division II Regional action after qualifying in the top 4 of their respective events during Saturday’s Eastern District meet at sun-splashed Red Devil Stadium.

Twenty-eight individuals and 11 relay teams qualified for regional action at Muskingum University in New Concord on Thursday and Saturday.

St. Clairsville won the boys title with 102 points, which was just nine more than Barnesville.

The Red Devils had three individual champs in Brady Blacker (800), Dane Kinsey (discus) and Chase Crum (pole vault).

Blacker set a meet record with a time of 1:57.93 in circling the oval twice. He also ran the first leg on the winning 4×800 relay foursome that clocked out in 8-minutes, 24.37-seconds. He was joined by Tyler Harris, Landon Capers and Camden Judge.

Kinsey twirled the discus 150-foot, 7-inches for his title, while Crum leaped 12-foot to win the pole vault.

The Shamrocks checked in with a pair of titlists in Aden Zumock (100) and Eli Messenger (300 hurdles).

Zumock sprinted to his first-place in 10.9 and Messenger topped the longer timber race in 40.70.

Union Local’s Connor Benda was a two-time winner as he ran to first-place finishes in the 1600- and 3200-meter runs. His times were 4:27.03 and 10:08.31, respectively.

On the girls’ side, St. Clairsville finished second to John Glenn with 98 points. The Muskies totaled 112.

Martins Ferry, which finished fourth with 59, had a double winner in junior Alanna Williams. She set meet records in the 800 (2:15.42) and 1600 (5:02.27) and also ran the anchor legs on the Purple Riders’ 4×400 relay team and the 4×800 foursome.

The 4×400 also featured Cadence Oberle, Ireland Jennette and Lakyn Call. They ran 4:10.07. The 4×800 — with the same four runners — timed out in 10:12.08 to also finish first.

St. Clairsville’s Ava Borkoski won the high jump earlier in the week with a leap of 5-1. The Red Devils’ 4×200 team of Olivia Perzanowski, Borkoski, Olivia McKeever and Emma Gasber clocked out in 1:48.11 for the gold.

Union Local’s Pazeley White won the 300 hurdles in 47.33 and Morganne Emory won the long jump with a leap of 16-11.25.

Buckeye Local’s Jenna Delvecchio claimed the 100 hurdles in 15.05.
