Martins Ferry take down host Navarre Fairless in hard-fought sectional co-final
NAVARRE — Martins Ferry made the long trip to Stark County worthwhile on Tuesday with a 2-1 victory over Navarre Fairless in an Ohio Division V, East 1 sectional co-final baseball tournament contest.
Leading 1-0 in the top of the fourth, Santino DeArdo’s two-out double made it 2-0 and the eighth-seeded Purple Riders (11-11) held on to knock off the Falcons and advanced to the district semifinals on Tuesday to meet No. 6 Ridgewood, which blanked Union Local, 1-0.
Ayden Ludolph hit a home run leading off the game. Eli Smith singled and tripled.
Hunter Shutler went the distance on the mound, striking out five and walking one. He scattered four singles.

Ridgewood 5, Shadyside 0
WEST LAFAYETTE — The Tigers bowed out of the postseason in the district semifinals against the Generals on Tuesday.
Ariana Saxton pitched the complete game for Shadyside, striking out three and surrendering five hits.
Though Ridgewood generated just five hits and drew two walks, Shadyside committed four errors on the day. Three of the runs Ridgewood scored were unearned.
The game was scoreless until the Generals put three runs across in the fifth, and two more in the sixth.
Saxton and leadoff hitter Kamry Parker each notched hits for Shadyside, Parker’s a double. Ali Weatherson swiped a bag.
Ridgewood advances to face top-seeded Crooksville for the district.
