Saunders leads St. Clairsville over Wheeling Central, 5-1

CADIZ — St. Clairsville continued to ride the right arm of Brody Saunders as the Ashland University recruit struck out seven, walked just one and scattered seven hits as the Red Devils defeated Wheeling Central 5-1 Saturday as part of the Mazeroski Classic at Mazeroski Field inside Sally Buffalo Park.

Saunders also contributed a two-run single as St. Clairsville (17-4) scored three times in the third and added two more in the fourth.

Caiden Bailey and Elijah Hill added RBI singles. Nico Jacob singled and doubled.

Koy Lipinski continued his torrid hitting with two singles and the lone RBI. Zayne Rosnick had a double.

St. Clairsville hosts Indian Creek Monday on Unified Bank Field at the Junior Sports Complex.

Indian Creek 9, Licking Valley 1

CADIZ — The Redskins (17-3) scored four times in the top of the first and never looked back in rolling past the Panthers in the Mazeroski Classic.

Sal Barcalow drove in four runs with three singles and a double, while Sylus Hyde worked his magic on the mound with nine strikeouts and allowed three singles. Hyde also singled twice.

Caleb Bodo had a single, double and two ribbies, as did Ty Householder. Hunter Risnak had two singles.

SOFTBALL

Monroe Central 15, Toronto 5

Monroe Central 13, Toronto 1

WOODSFIELD — The Seminoles prepped for the postseason with a doubleheader sweep of the visiting Red Knights.

Brylee McFredrick had an outstanding day at the plate as she collected two singles and a triple that produced three runs in the first game. In the second game, she knocked in four runs with a pair of doubles.

Allie McFredrick also drove in three runs in the opener.

Olivia Earley smacked a two-run homer in the second game.

Barnesville 12, St. Clairsville 2

ST. CLAIRSVILLE The Shamrocks won in six innings Saturday against the Red Devils.

Abby Johnson and Sadie Johnson combined on the mound, Abby Johnson pitching the first 5 and two-thirds before Sadie Johnson got the final out. Neither runs were earned.

Maddy Tyson collected three hits for Barnesville, including a triple, scoring thrice and driving in a run. Abby Johnson had two hits and two RBI while Payton Dudzik had two hits and one RBI. Chaela Smolira popped a solo home run as one of her two hits, and Lily Welch had a two-hit day of her own.

Barnesville 15, Brooke 2

WELLSBURG — The Shamrocks erupted for 12 runs in the bottom of the third inning to erase a 2-0 deficit and never look back in pouding the visiting Bruins on the Memorial Park diamond.

Dylan Blon went the distance on the mound. The lefty fanned seven and walked two. He also delivered a run-scoring base hit.

Marshall Meade supplied the offense with two singles, a double and four RBI. Casey Carpenter finished with three runs batted in. Blake Burkhart had two hits and a pair of ribbies.

Zac O’Mery doubled in a run for Brooke.
