Shenandoah claim MOVL championship

SARAHSVILLE — The hosting Shenandoah boys and girls track teams took home the team championships at the MOVL Track Championship Meet Wednesday at Shenandoah High School, a day that saw 15 new meet records across the boys and girls competitions.

Caldwell’s boys finished in second with 107 points behind Shenandoah’s 158; Shadyside took bronze with 101.5 points. Monroe Central, River, Frontier and Beallsville finished fourth through seventh, in that order.

The Zeps’ Jarrett Wentworth set a new meet record in the 1600 with a 4:45.98. Teammate Braxton Barnett set the meet record in the 300 hurdles with a 39.45. Barnett also set a new meet record in the high jump, clearing 6-6.

Monroe Central’s quartet of Evan Knowlton, Zachary Babcock, Corbin Farnsworth and Tyler Whitacre set a new meet record in the 4×200 relay with a 1:36.09.

Caldwell’s Ethan Crock set new meet records in the shot put and discus, with throws of 51-1 and 151-2.5, respectively.

Among local competitors, Knowlton won the 100-meter, Frontier’s Avery Powell won the 400-meter, the Seminoles’ Evan Knowlton, Jacob Fogle, Corbin Farnsworth and Tyler Whitacre won the 4×100 relay, and Shadyside’s Jacob Trigg came in first in the pole vault.

GIRLS

Shenandoah’s 138 team points were followed up by 116 from second-place River and 114 from third-place River. Caldwell, Frontier and Monroe Central proceeded to finish out the standings.

Shenandoah’s Alyssa Crum set a new meet record in the 400, clocking a 1:01.78. Teammate Ida Estadt set meet records in the 1600 (5:23.62) and 3200 (11:16.98). Shenandoah set a new meet record in the 4×200 with a 1:51.78.

River set a new meet record in the 4×400 relay, with Mallory Brake, Kara Miller, Brayleigh Trifonoff and Carleigh Trifonoff finishing in 4:23.16.

Shadyside’s relay team was next to set a meet record, the Tigers’ 4×800 quartet of Gabby Kosky, Bayden Parr, Laken Miller and Chloe Meholovitch setting a new high-mark of 11:49.32. The Tigers’ Gabby Kosky also set a meet record in the high jump with a 4-10.

Caldwell’s Gwyn Lori set new meet records in the shot put and discus, with tosses of 46-8.5 and 153-0, respectively.

Other local champions include Frontier’s Tysie Hoff in the 100-meter, River’s Ashley Miller in the 200-meter, River’s Brooke Huffman in the 100-meter hurdles, Shadyside’s Mariah Bracy in the 300-meter hurdles, Shadyside’s Kaci Tsoras in the pole vault, and River’s Carleigh Trifinoff in the long jump.
