Four Eastern Ohio baseball players earn first-team all-state accolades
COLUMBUS — Four Eastern Ohio players have received the highest honor from the Ohio High School Baseball Coaches Association with first-team all-Ohio status.
They include Indian Creek’s Ty Householder (D-IV); River’s duo of Peyton Blue and Lucas, and Bridgeport’s Daniel Goff (D-VII). All four recently graduated.
A trio of other players were selected to the second team in their respective divisions.
They are Indian Creek’s tandem of Sylus Hyde and Sal Barcalow (D-IV), along with St. Clairsville’s Brody Saunders (D-V).
A brief capsule of each honoree follows:
HOUSEHOLDER, who will continue his academic and athletic careers at Marshall University, re-wrote the Redskins record book this past season. The center fielder established six new program marks in 2025, including batting average (.530), hits (44), doubles (14), home runs (7), runs scored (48) and stolen bases (29). He also recorded five triples and drove in 23 runs as Indian Creek advanced to the Division IV Region 15 championship game before bowing out to Chillicothe Unioto, 2-0.
Career-wise, Householder holds three program marks. They are hits (130), doubles (36) and runs scored (135). He was a .398 career hitter with 10 triples, eight home runs, 69 RBI and 55 stolen bases.
He was sel;ected as an outfielder.
BLUE, who will play baseball collegiately at Potomac State, earned his honor at first base. He hit a robust .593 this season (35-59), scoring 23 runs and driving in 46. He had eight doubles and four home runs, walked 23 times, was hit by a pitch six times and stole 12 bases. His OBP was .729 and he slugged at a nifty .948 clip, which was the highest among first-teamers.
Blue was the OVAC Class 2A Player of the Year, along with the Eastern District Division VII Player of the Year. He is now a two-time OVAC honoree and participated in the OVAC and Eastern District all star games.
DENNIS was named as an outfielder after hitting .571 (40-70). He scored 41 runs and drove in 17 while banging out nine doubles and three triples. He walked 11 times and was hit by a pitch five times. He stole 12 bases and recorded an OBP of .659 and a slugging percentage of .786.
Like Blue, Dennis was all-OVAC and all-Eastern District and played in both all star contests.
GOFF batted .479 (23-48) for the Bulldogs. He scored 16 runs and knocked in 16. He had six doubles, two triples and a pair of home runs. His OBP was .333 and his slugging percentage .813.
BARCALOW was selected as a first baseman. The senior batted .389 this season, with 37 hits, nine doubles, 14 runs scored and 35 driven in. He also doubled as a pitcher where he was 7-3 in 62 innings. He struck out 46 and compiled a 2.37 ERA.
For his career, he was a .357 hotter with 93 hits, 20 doubles, two triples and a home run. He scored 52 runs and drove in 82. He sparkled on the mound with a career 19-6 mark. In 156 innings of work, he fanned 128 and had a 3.18 ERA.
HYDE, who was named as a pitcher, already holds several pitching records — both single-season and career. This past season the lefty set a mark for most wins with nine (1 loss) and 103 strikeouts. In 72 innings, his ERA was 1.48.
His 20 career wins on the mound (6 losses) are the most in program history, along with his 228 strikeouts. In 142 innings, his ERA is 2.15.
SAUNDERS was a workhorse for the Red Devils this season as he was perfect on the mound (9-0). He appeared in 10 games, with nine being as a starter. He registered seven complete games while throwing three shutouts. In 55 innings, he struck out 82, walked 19, allowed 12 runs (7 earned) and gave up 37 hits. His ERA was a microscopic 0.89.
