OVBL playoffs begin Monday
FAIRPOINT — The Ohio Valley Baseball League has concluded its regular season action as Barton captured the No. 1 seed in the upcoming playoffs, which begin Monday at the higher seeded team’s home field. The Braves, who also finished as the No. 1 seed last year, finished 14-5 and will receive a first-round bye, along with second-seeded Weirton (9-4).
In the best-of-3 semifinals on Monday, No. 3 Bethany (12-8) welcomes No. 6 Colerain (3-13) to Bethany Park on the campus of Bethany College. Fourth-seeded Maynard (9-7) hosts No. 5 Wheeling (3-13) on Firemen’s Field inside the Maynard Community Park.
Wheeling, the reigning OVBL champion, received the No. 5 seed over Colerain despite the two teams splitting four regular-season contests. The Pioneers scored more runs.
Game 2 of the semifinals will be played on Tuesday when Colerain hosts Bethany at Martins Ferry High School’s diamond, while the Wheeling-Maynard series will continue in Belmont County due to the damage done to Wheeling’s home field at the J.B. Chambers I-470 Complex in Elm Grove.
The third, and deciding games, will be back in Bethany and Maynard.
All games start at 6 p.m.
