A capsule look at the newest three honorees.
DAVE KNIGHT (Class of 1967) – Knight enjoyed a stellar gridiron career with the Maroon Knights, distinguishing himself as one of the premier ball-toters in the Ohio Valley.
Knight accumulated more than 1,000 yards in rushing and receiving in his senior campaign. He put an exclamation point on Central’s 8-2-1 1966 season by scoring three touchdowns in the Maroon Knights’ West Virginia State Catholic School championship game against Weirton Madonna. Knight averaged nearly six yards per carry as a senior. He served the team as co-captain.
Knight also was a key performer as a junior when Central recorded a sparkling 9-0-1 mark.
His offensive explosiveness earned him first-team All-OVAC and All-City honors, and a full football scholarship to Pitt, from where he graduated in 1971.
Knight also lettered as a sophomore when the Maroon went 8-3.
He possessed athletic versatility as Knight also played basketball and ran track during his four-year stay at the East Wheeling school.
Knight also proved to be a successful businessman. He owned and operated Conrad Crafters for 44 years and was also parking lot manager for the Pittsburgh International Airport.
PAT KORSNICK (Class of 1968) – One of the most honored football/baseball athletes in Maroon Knight history, the 5-foot-10, 180-pounder earned a Division I football scholarship and played both football and baseball in college after being drafted for pro baseball out of high school.
The three-year regular quarterback-defensive back-punter-placekicker led Central to records of 9-0-1, 8-2-1 and the school’s first perfect season (10-0) as a senior. He earned every possible honor his final year — first team largest Class AAA all-state, repeat first team “Big School” All-Valley and selected captain, and All-OVAC largest Class AAA for the OVAC title team. The unbeaten Knights were acclaimed state Catholic schools champion for a third straight year without a playoff because of a dominant and spotless season (eight shutouts, outscoring foes by 285-21).
In his junior season, Central defeated Madonna, 46-6, in the state Catholic title game.
As a senior, he completed 64 passes for 1,096 yards and 8 TDs and rushed 78 times for 403 yards and 20 TDs. He also kicked 11 PATs. As a junior, he passed for 790 yards and 11 TDs with no interceptions and rushed 66 times for 473 yards. In the title game vs. Madonna, he was 8-for-8 passing for 165 yards and two TDs.
In baseball, he earned first team All-Class All-State honors both as a junior and senior outfielder. He batted .480 as a junior and .458 as a senior. He was selected co-captain of the initial All-Valley, All-Class, selections by The Intelligencer as a senior.
He was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds after his senior season, but instead opted for a football scholarship to Purdue University.
He attended Purdue for a year before transferring to North Carolina State where he played football three years as a quarterback-punter and baseball as an outfielder.
PATRICK P.J. HENRY JR. (Class of 2007) – Henry was a rare four-sport athlete for the Maroon Knights. The hard-nosed Henry competed in football, basketball, baseball and hockey during his time at the East Wheeling school.
Football, however, was the sport Henry was nothing short of sensational, as well as the ultimate winner. Henry helped the Maroon Knights capture three WVSSAC state championships. Central’s 2006 juggernaut finished with a 14-0 mark.
Henry was a two-time first team All-State defensive back and well as two-time All-Valley first-team honoree. He led the Knights in tackles his junior season with 114 stops en route to being named the team’s defensive Player of the Year.
As a senior, he served as team captain and was accorded the Lou Mack Award. He also led the team in receiving that year. He played in the OVAC Rudy Mumley All-Star Football Game.
The two-time All-OVAC Academic team honoree was named captain of the WVSSAC Class A All-Decade team for the 2000s. Moreover, Henry was invited to play football in Australia in the Down Under Bowl in the summer of 2007 as part of the West Virginia team, which went on to win the gold medal.
Henry’s talent carried over to the baseball diamond. He hit a robust .383 as a junior with five triples, 15 stolen bases and 21 RBI.
Henry was a member of Central’s inaugural hockey team.
He was also a standout in the classroom, graduating third in the Class of 2007. He earned his industrial engineering degree from WVU and later gained his MBA from West Liberty University.
Henry is currently director of procurement for seven hospitals for Vandalia Health.
