Barnesville golf team takes top spot in six-school matchup
MOUNDSVILLE — Moundsville Country Club played host to six local teams on Friday, with Barnesville, Union Local, Shadyside, Magnolia, Monroe Central and River each taking to the links, and the Shamrocks coming out on top in a six-sided competition.
Barnesville wrapped up with a 157 team tally, followed by Union Local (163) in second, Shadyside (172) in third, Magnolia and Monroe Central (198) tied for the next spot, and then River (200).
The Jets’ Landen Hanasky and Tigers’ Gavin Nelson were co-medalists Friday, each carding 37’s on the Par 36 course.
Hayden Treadway shot a 38, and Brady Gallagher and Dylan Gallagher each shot 39’s to lead Barnesville. Brady birdied on the third hold, while Dylan birdied the ninth hole. Kennedy Little carded a 40 to round out her team’s total.
Caedyn Silva shot a 45 to lead Monroe Central. Jaxon Poe and Koen Bowser each finished at 48 strokes, the top marks for Magnolia. Cale Willis led River with a 49.

Weir comes out ahead of Creek, Oak Glen
WEIRTON — The Red Riders out-played their competition on Friday, tallying a team score of 152 while Indian Creek finished with 181 and the Golden Bears finished at 182.
Weir’s Evan Kaczmarek and Guy Meneely were co-medalists on the day, each shooting a 36. Isaiah Smith carded a 37 and Micah Hvizdak carded a 43 to round out the Riders’ team score.
Garrin Clark led Indian Creek with 40 strokes. Oak Glen’s Zach Jenkins had 41.
Weir moves to 2-0 with the successful outing, the Red Riders will travel to Steubenville Country Club on Monday for an 18-hole tri-match against Steubenville and Edison.
