Barnesville looks to extend winning streak

BARNESVILLE — The battle for the coveted Bill Dowler Trophy will resume Friday Night when Meadowbrook visits Shamrock Stadium to meet Barnesville on Senior Night. Kickoff is set for 7.

The Colts (0-1) dropped a 48-28 verdict to Tri-Valley in their season-opener, while the Shamrocks (1-0) will look to extend their regular-season winning streak to 38 straight after thumping Fort Frye, 35-7, last Friday. They haven’t lost since week 4 of the 2021 campaign.

In that victory, Barnesville ran for 286 yards and four touchdowns, with four different ballcarriers reaching the end zone. Trey Toliver led the way with 124 stripes on 12 carries.

Barnesville leads the all-time series 26-13-2. It has won nine of the last 12 and the series and has prevailed in the last two — 42-7 in 2022 and 42-27 in 2019. The Colts last won in 2018, 26-7.

The series was contested every year from 1991 until 2018.

Clay-Battelle at Cameron

CAMERON — The Cee-Bees and Dragons make their 2025 debuts on the artificial surface at Dragon Stadium Friday night.

Cameron is coming off a magical season in which it lost its season opener before advancing to the W.Va. Class A state championship game.

The Dragons return quarterback Kason Angel from the state runner-up squad, while junior Soier Reed and sophomores Talen Brown and Carter Paczewski also return.

Bellaire at Monroe Central

WOODSFIELD — For the first time ever, the Big Reds (1-0) and Seminoles (0-1) will collide on the gridiron Friday night at Monroe Park. Bellaire has played Woodsfield in the past, winning all four matchups by a combined score of 93-0.

Bellaire will be looking for a 2-0 start after throttling Buckeye Local, 31-6, in its opener last week at World War II Memorial Stadium in Yorkville.

Michael Dipple completed 11 of 16 passes for 152 yards and threw touchdowns to Raekwon Pettigrew and Quentin Scott. Rylin McMahon ran for 64 yards and scored twice.

Monroe Central dropped a heart-breaking 21-20 decision at Liberty Union as the Lions scored in the final minute for the win.

Cooper Howell rushed 162 yards, a touchdown and a two-point conversion for Monroe Central. A.J. Rutter had two touchdowns on the ground.

Beaver Local at Brooke

WELLSBURG — The Frank Sisinni era kicks off Friday night when the Bruins debut at Paul ‘Bud’ Billiard Memorial Field against the Beavers (1-0) who defeated Shaw, 27-20, in their opener.

Sisinni is a 1990 graduate of Brooke and coached at Weir the last several seasons.

Brooke returns senior quarterback Ty Sperringer, who is a three-year starter.

Buckeye Local at River

HANNIBAL — The Panthers (0-1) will be seeking their first victory ever against the host Pilots (1-0) when they face off at Martin Flannery Field. The two teams have met just twice, with River winning 39-9 and 48-0.

Buckeye Local dropped a 31-6 decision at home to Bellaire in week 1, while the Pilots downed visiting Perry Traditional of Pittsburgh, 36-12.

St. Clairsville at Brownsville, Pa.

REPUBLIC, Pa. — The Red Devils (0-1) are looking to get back on the winning track after a 47-27 loss at Creston Norwayne in the opener. The Falcons (0-1) fell 47-6 to Bentworth and have only won one game since the 2023 season.

This will be the seventh time St. Clairsville has played a team from the Keystone State, but the first since 1989 when the Red Devils thumped Erie Tech, 42-20. They also blanked Erie Tech in 1988 and won one of three meetings with Langley from 1948-51.

Bridgeport at Shenandoah

SARAHSVILLE — Both teams are coming off season-opening setbacks when they met Friday night at Zeps Field in Noble County.

The Bulldogs fell at Frontier 36-13 while the Zeps dropped a 35-14 nod at Edison.

Senior quarterback Jaki Threet leads Bridgeport which also receives offense from senior tailback A.J. Bishop. Dylan Charlton is the top receiving threat.

The programs have met 10 times previously, with Shenandoah owning a 6-4 advantage. They played from 1991-2000.

Indian Creek at East Liverpool

EAST LIVERPOOL — The Redskins (1-0) and Potters (1-0) both collected season-opening victories on the road.

Indian Creek defeated Cambridge, 35-6, at McFarland Stadium, while East Liverpool took down host Carrollton, 23-12.

IN OTHER Friday games, Harrison Central (0-1) travels to Newcomerstown (0-1); Carrollton (0-1) visits Edison (1-0); Toronto (1-0) treks to Lowellville (1-0) and Shadyside (0-1) heads north to Southern Local (0-1).

On Saturday, Linsly debuts against Westinghouse from Pittsburgh at Lockhart Alumni Field. That kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
