WHEELING — The Martins Ferry Purple Riders swept the Wheeling Central Maroon Knights on Coach Skip Prosser Court on Wednesday evening, 25-21, 26-24, 26-24.

Nicole Hammerquist had 15 kills to lead the Riders. She also had two blocks. Giana Chirpas had 11 kills and four blocks.

Olivia Harkness piled up 36 assists while SJ Koller secured 25 digs. Gracie Lucas had eight digs. Harkness, Koller and Lucas all finished with two aces.

Weir Narrowly Outplays Edison

BERGHOLZ — The Red Riders finished eight strokes ahead of Edison in their 9-hole match Wednesday at Spring Hills Golf Course.

Evan Kaczmarek was Weir’s top performer and medalist on the day. He carded a 38. Isaiah Smith (40), Guy Meneely (40) and Justin Kaczmarek (45) rounded out the Red Riders’ team score.’

Xander Haught led Edison at a 41.

Weir will travel to St. Mary’s tomorrow to participate in the St. Mary’s Invitational.
