ST. CLAIRSVILLE — The Lansing Sportsmen’s Club is no stranger when it comes to providing for various organizations. That trend is ongoing as the club recently purchased an American flag for the ECO Center.

The 12-foot by 18-foot retractable flag will unfurl above center court and will be used for various activities at the facility.

“Mark (Cook) and I were talking about what the ECO Center needed and he rattled off a list of things,” Lansing Sportsmen’s Club Finance Committee member Ross “Beans” Campbell said. “I told him to come to one of our meetings and make a presentation. He did and our membership unanimously approved the purchase of the flag.”

“Ross is a frequent attendee of our events and I was telling him some of the things that we would like to do at the ECO Center, with the flag idea as one of them,” ECO Center Director of Facilities Mark Cook recalled. “He said ‘why don’t you come down and present it to our club and we’ll see what we can do.’ I went down on a Sunday and they had a very large crowd. They ask some great questions about where it was made? What was it made of? They voted and then called me and said they were onboard with it.

“That was quite a donation from them.”

The flag cost $6,800 and took almost a year-and-a-half to get.

Campbell said the Club’s membership consists of a lot of veterans.

“I think this meant a lot to most of our members,” Campbell added. “It’s special.”

Angie Hanna, ECO Center Director of Operations, said, “We’re very blessed. Everybody that has seen it has commented on it. It’s a very nice donation from the Lansing Sportsmen’s Club. We appreciate their community outreach. We just hope that everyone that visits the ECO Center appreciates it as much as we do.”
