Martins Ferry defeats rival Bellaire; Jets pull away from Cambridge
BELLAIRE — The Martins Ferry Purple Riders got the better of rival Bellaire on the volleyball court Thursday, Ferry taking a road victory over the Big Reds, 25-17, 25-14, 21-25, 25-9.
Olivia Harkness finished with an impressive 12 service aces for the Riders. SJ Koller led the way on the defensive with 33 digs. Maddie Lucas ended with 12 kills and 10 digs, while Giana Chirpas piled up 22 kills, three blocks and eight digs. Lexi Carte added nine kills to the winning effort.
Jets Pull Away Against Cambridge
CAMBRIDGE — Union Local put an emphasis on their road victory Thursday, storming away with the fourth and decisive set against the Bobcats, 25-7, 25-27, 25-22, 25-14.
Ameera Saunders paced Union Local with 25 kills and 23 digs, while Laken Vinskovich added 16 kills and 18 digs. Vinskovich also had four blocks.
Delaney Butler piled up 51 assists for the Jets. Brooklyn Burley put down six service aces.
Tigers Zapped By Zeps
SHADYSIDE — Shadyside fell at home to visiting Shenandoah on Thursday, 25-19, 25-17, 25-13.
Aubrey Nippert’s 10 kills and eight digs, and Giovanna Hines’ nine kills led the way for Shadyside. Ali Weatherson finished with 22 assists, and Ava Mercer’s nine digs led the team.

Weir Outplays Potters, Blue Dons
NEW CUMBERLAND — The Red Riders finished as the low-team Thursday at Mountaineer’s Woodview Golf Course in a nine-hole tri-match against Madonna and East Liverpool.
Weir shot a 165 to outpace East Liverpool (186) and Madonna (231).
Weir’s Guy Meneely was medalist with a 39. Evan Kaczmarek carded a 40, Justin Kaczmarek carded a 42, and Isaiah Smith finished at a 44 for Weir.
Madonna was led by Xavier Taylor’s 41.
Weir will travel to Stonewall Resort on Saturday to participate in the High School Callaway Series, sponsored by the West Virginia Golf Association.

Patriots Thwart Monarchs
GLEN DALE — Wheeling Park went on the road Thursday and defeated John Marshall 7-0, receiving scores from five different players.
Isaac Welling tallied two goals, with Dani Drazal Morcillo, Aiden McCroskey, Wilson Hanna and Hayden Gonzalez also scoring.
Big Red Blanks Brooke
WELLSBURG — Steubenville racked up the goals in a 10-0 road victory over Brooke on Thursday.
Cole Bowers scored four times for Big Red, while each of Chase Beall, Landon Bowers, Tad Loot, Eli Jankowski, Thomas Lucas and Thomas Stanchfield also got involved in the scoring.
Landon Bowers led Steubenville with three of their nine assists.
Bronson Pack recorded eight saves for Brooke. Steubenville is 6-3-1 and will host an OVAC semifinal game next Thursday.

Homecourt vs. River
NEW MARTINSVILLE — The Blue Eagles ruled the skies on Thursday against the Pilots, with homestanding Magnolia sweeping River 25-13, 25-20, 25-20.
Jessa Anderson led the charge with 15 kills, tops on the team, and seven digs, one behind Hallee Beisel’s eight digs.
Sidney Knight finished with three service aces and Sydney Quinet finished with 27 assists. Anderson and Quinet each had two blocks.
Magnolia is 6-7 after the win.
