St. C.’s Baker wins Ohio D-II girls golf sectional
CARROLLTON — St. Clairsville’s Olivia Baker finished atop the leaderboard once again Tuesday during Ohio Division II girls sectional golf action. The Red Devils senior shot a 76 at the Carroll Meadows Golf Club to win by two strokes over Garaway’s Sara Weaver.
Baker, who won the OVAC championship last week for the second time in three years, shared medalist honors in last year’s sectional.
She and Edison’s Kallie McKeegan were the lone individual qualifiers. McKeegan carded an 81.
However, the Wildcats finished third in the team race with a score of 399 and will advance to District Tournament action on Oct. 1 at the Cambridge Country Club.
Also representing Edison were Bella Evans (101), Madyson Cornell (107) and Teagan Reynolds (110).
Garaway won the team title with a 345. Sandy Valley was second at 396, while Edison tied with Tuscarawas Valley for third.

MORRISTOWN — In the continuation of a suspended match on Monday due to inclement weather, the No. 3 seeded Jets rallied from an early 2-1 on Tuesday by scoring three unanswered goals to nip the sixth-seeded Huskies.
Dominic Crum had two goals and an assist for Union Local. Brady Roe and Izayha Hall also scored goals for the Jets, while Mason Fowkes and Liam Roe charted assists.
Union Local now travels to Lisbon to meet No. 2 Beaver Local in semifinal action on Wednesday.

Wheeling Park Wins Triangular
MOUNDSVILLE — The Patriots slipped past St. Clairsville 326 to 327 Tuesday at the Moundsville Country Club. John Marshall was third at 358.
Wheeling Park’s Andrew Pennybacker and St. Clairsville’s Mavrik Malin tied for medalist honors as both shot 76. Brayden Kempkens and Brandt Blake both carded 87 to lead the Monarchs.

Martins Ferry Tops Barnesville
BARNESVILLE — The visiting Purple Riders prevailed by scores of 25-20, 22-25, 25-17 and 25-12 over the Shamrocks.
Olivia Harkness charted 48 assists and had a pair of service aces to lead Martins Ferry. SJ Koller added 29 digs, while Lexi Carte finished with 14 kills. Giana Chirpas added 21 kills and a trio of aces, while Maddie Lucas added 17 digs and five kills. Nicole Hammerquist contributed nine kills and three blocks while Gracie Lucas had nine digs and two aces.
Barnesville’s Aubrey Johnson broke the program record for career digs previously held by Kynlie Cline at 1,392. She had 14. Aiva Leasure had seven kills, while Caydence Stephen blocked four shots and Londyn Gibson charted 25 assists. Makenna Marley had 12 digs.
