Union Local volleyball season comes to a close in regional semifinals
LOGAN — The Union Local Jets (19-7) fell to the Frankfort Adena Warriors (25-1) on Thursday in the OHSAA Division V, Region 19 semifinals, bowing out in four sets, 26-24, 25-17, 22-25 and 25-16 inside Jim Myers Gymnasium at Logan High School.
Ameera Saunders led Union Local with 26 kills, also tallying 13 digs and a team-high four blocks. Laken Vinskovich finished with 18 kills, 18 digs and three blocks.
Alli Kellaway tallied 33 digs to lead the Jets. Delaney Butler racked up 43 assists, and Myah Martin had 15 digs.
The Jets graduate an impact senior class of Myah Martin, Brooklyn Burley, Delaney Butler, Alli Kellaway and Laken Vinskovich.
Wheeling Central One Win From States
RAVENSWOOD — The Wheeling Central Maroon Knights volleyball squad moved within one win of their first-ever state tournament berth on Thursday in Ravenswood, sweeping the homestanding Red Devils 25-22, 25-14, 25-18.
Lainey Peters tallied 13 kills and Remy Peters had 12 kills for Wheeling Central. Teagan Peters and Morgan Miehle each had five kills. Chloe Groome led the team with five service aces, and Olivia Stephens had five digs.
The Maroon Knights are back in action on Nov. 5 against an opponent yet to be determined. In their half of the WVSSAC Class AA, Region 1 bracket, Wheeling Central is the lone remaining team without a loss in the double-elimination tournament.
