Bellaire girls start season with road win against River, 42-19

HANNIBAL — Bellaire made it two wins in a row to start the girls’ basketball season Monday night with a 42-19 win over River.

Tamya Morgan led the Big Reds (2-0) with 15 points, which included a trio of treys. Kayla Edgar added a dozen points.

Carleigh Trifonoff paced the debuting Pilots with eight points.

Leading 8-4 after one quarter, Bellaire outscored River 10-4 in the second quarter, 13-6 in the third and 11-5 in the fourth.

Linsly Defeats John Marshall In Head-To-Head

WHEELING — The Cadets ruled the waters on Monday, their women’s team out-scoring John Marshall 88-69, while their men’s team won by the slimmest margin against the Monarchs 82-81.

John Marshall’s Wyatt Jefferson won both the boys 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle. Linsly’s Pablo Hernandez won both the boys 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle.

John Marshall’s Evan Harrison came in first in both the boys 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke. Linsly’s Adriana Lopez Alonso claimed the gold in both the girls 200 individual medley, and 100 breast stroke. Linsly’s Sebastian Jayakumar won both the boys 200 individual medley and the 100 breaststroke.
