Seminoles, Cougars win at River City Classic

MARIETTA — The Monroe Central Seminoles kept their undefeated season rolling in the River City Classic on Friday, defeating Tyler 77-44 on the hardwood at Marietta College.

Corbin Farnsworth finished with 20 points to lead all scorers, while Cooper Howell scored 18 and Blake Yontz scored 13. Yontz was named the Seminoles’ Player of the Game after the win.

Landon Boggs led the Knights with 10 points.

Brooke 83, Buckeye Local 54

RAYLAND — The Bruins fielded four in double figures in a road victory over the rival Panthers on Friday.

Brooke’s Andrew Murdock led all scorers with 19 points, grabbing nine rebounds. Pete Fodor scored 15, adding seven steals and four assists. Grant Yost posted a 13-point, 13-rebound double-double, and Crosby Morris scored a dozen with six rebounds.

Tye Sperringer scored nine with six assists.

Buckeye Local was led by Kyle Kirkland, who scored 18. Rylan Walker scored 11.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Frontier 47, Tyler 28

MARIETTA — Anna Bowersock missed a double-double by one rebound and Willow Smitley stuffed the stat sheet here Friday during the River City Classic to help lead Frontier to a victory versus Tyler Consolidated.

The Silver Knights, who slipped to 1-7 and had their only lead at 6-3 thanks to a Ryland Henderson free throw along with a deuce and a trey by Riley Stover, allowed the last nine points of the first, trailed 24-10 at halftime and 43-22 entering the fourth.

Tyler Consolidated’s Katie Grimm was named Player of the Game after leading them with a dozen counters.

Bowersock paced the Cougars with 18 points and nine rebounds, but Smitley was named Player of the Game after putting up 14 points, grabbing seven caroms and dishing out a game-high five assists. Smitley, who added a blocked shot, also tied Stover for game-high steal honors with four.

Canton South 35

MARIETTA — The Seminoles girls took home a win Friday in the River City Classic, breezing by the Wildcats.

Miley Bommer scored 16 points to pace the Seminoles. Jadyn Miller joined her teammate in double figures with 12 points. Mayzie Emery and Jacey English each scored nine.

Claire Howard led Canton South with 14 points.
