Wheeling Park swims to wins over Barnesville

WHEELING — Wheeling Park splashed its way to a pair of victories in both boys’ and girls’

High school swimming Wednesday night at the Wheeling Park High School pool.

The Patriot boys defeated Barnesville 100-42 and East Liverpool 100-14, while the girls swam to wins over the Shamrocks 85-40 and Potters 85-35.

BOYS

Wheeling Park’s Brady Bowie and Brady Biehl both collected two wins as Bowie captured the 200 Freestyle in 2:08.05 and the 100 Breaststroke in 1:11.94.

Biehl won the 100 Butterfly in 1:02.59 and the 100 Backstroke in 1:11.43.

Barnesville’s Maddeox Whaley was a two-time winner in the 200 Freestyle in 2:08.05 and the 100 Breaststroke in 1:11.94.

GIRLS

The Patriots’ Molly George won the 50 Freestyle in 27.19 and the 100 Freestyle in 1:00.25.

Barnesville’s Liv McCrate captured the 100 Butterfly in 1:07.61 and the 200 Freestyle in 2:10.63.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

River 41, Toronto 11

TORONTO — Zoey Fox scored 15 points and Ava Wohnhas added 11 as the Pilots (2-3) rolled to a convincing victory against the Red Knights.

Leading 8-3 at the half, River scored 16 points in the third quarter to pull away.

WRESTLING

Indian Creek Picks Up Two Victories

WINTERSVILLE — The Redskins tamed Buckeye Local 49-30 and Weir 48-19 in a triangular dual meet at Indian Creek High School.

Double winners for Indian Creek included Jackson Scharfenberg (120–2 forfeits), Ethan Starr (138–decision, pin), Isaiah Thompson-Yost (144-w forfeits), Ian Starkey (157–pin, decision) and Luke McMillion (285–pin, major decision).

SWIMMING

Linsly Splashes Past Edison

WHEELING — The Cadets swept a dual high school meet with the visiting Wildcats at Stifel Pool. The boys won 102-50, while the girls prevailed 120-37.

BOYS

Sebastien Jayakumar and Pablo Hernandez were both double winners for Linsly. Jayakumar won the 200 Freestyle in 2:04.86 and the 500 Freestyle in 5:56.70.

Hernandez, meanwhile, claimed the 200 IM in 2:21.11 and the 100 Backstroke in 1:05.07.

Edison’s Issac Pudder won the 50 Freestyle in 26.43 and Liam Westfall the 100 Freestyle in 54.11.

GIRLS

Maria Maldonado Escalona, Irene Marzo Grana and Adrianna Lopez Alonso all picked up two wins each. Escalona won the 200 IM in 2:33.88 and the 100 Backstroke in 1:06.13, while Grana captured the 50 Freestyle in 28.53 and the 500 Freestyle in 6:03.11. Alonso’s victories came in the 100 Butterfly in 1:10.16 and the 100 Breaststroke in 1:13.55.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Monroe Central 71 Shadyside 40

SHADYSIDE — Senior Caedyn Silva’s 20 points led unbeaten Monroe Central (4-0) to a convincing 71-40 win at the Tiger Den, Tuesday night.

The Seminoles, who return to action Tuesday at Waterford, led 20-10, 45-22, and 62-28 at the quarter stops.

Junior Corbin Farnsworth (16 points) backed Silva, while senior Blake Yontz (13) and junior Cooper Howell (8) added to the offense. Jayden Johnson’s 11 points led the Tigers.
