PREP ROUNDUP: John Marshall girls’ quick start too much for Union Local
MOUNDSVILLE — John Marshall sprinted to an 18-4 lead after one quarter and held a 33-17 lead at the half en route to a 51-33 girls’ basketball victory over visiting Union Local Saturday afternoon inside the John Marshall Fieldhouse.
Rilee Storm exploded for 27 points and Kaylee White added 11 for the Monarchs (12-4).
Laken Vinskovich had 17 points and Delaney Butler 13 for the Jets as only one other player scored.
Williamstown 50, Wheeling Central 36
WHEELING — A bad second quarter spelled doom for the Maroon Knights on Coach Skip Prosser Court inside the Athletic Center. The Yellowjackets used a 13-4 margin in the aforementioned quarter to earn the triumph.
Seneca Heller led the Maroon Knights with 14 points. Bella Fitzsimmons added eight and Addy Payton seven.

Barnesville Wins Jimmy Wood
NEW LEXINGTON — The Shamrocks, despite going 1-for-7 in the championship round, captured the annual Jimmy Wood Invitational at New Lexington High School. They amassed 264 points to runnerup New Lexington’s 212.
Barnesville’s lone champion came at 215 where Christien Hannahs earned a 2-1 decision over John Glenn’s Kian Barton.
The Shamrocks six second-place finishers included Easton Stephen (106), Jaxon Aberegg (120), Ryder King (138), Colt Carpenter (144), Hines Ford (175) and Austin Armstrong (190).
St. Clairsville, which finished fourth in the team race with 132.5 points, had runnerups in Carson Bishop (113) and Kohen Holmes (132).
Steubenville Second at Frank Ferguson
WELLSBURG — Big Red amassed 205.5 points to place second at the annual Frank Ferguson Invitational at Brooke High School.
Steubenville had two champions in Jailen Steve (113) and Landon Crosier (175). Dorian Hadad (132) and Julius Mullins (138) finished second.
Wheeling Park’s Isaac Sands (165) captured his weight class. The Patriots, who finished sixth with 113 points, also has Brian Flanegin (106) take second.
Weir’s Ben Bryan (190) also placed second.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Cambridge Wins Buckeye 8
ST. CLAIRSVILLE — The Bobcats led 39-21 at the half but outscored the Beavers 18-4 in the decisive third quarter en route to a 71-40 victory in the championship game at the ECO Center.
Garrett Carpenter poured in 34 points to pace Cambridge. Cam Lauer added 16.
Matt Anderson led Beaver Local with 10.
Third Place
St. Clairsville 68, Brooke 50
ST. CLAIRSVILLE — Griffin Straub (26) and Luke Schafer (17) combined for 43 points as the Red Devils defeated the Bruins.
Brooke was led by Grant Yost with 20. Andrew Murdock added 11.
Fifth Place
Martins Ferry 67, East Liverpool 52
ST. CLAIRSVILLE — Anthony Booth netted 24 points and Eli Smith chipped in 21 as the Purple Riders ran past the Potters.
Tyler Kirby had 14 for East Liverpool.
Seventh Place
Union Local 43, Indian Creek 36
ST. CLAIRSVILLE — The Jets were led by Bam Porter and Brody Kerns who evenly split 30 points in their win over the Redskins.
Nishon White had 14 for Indian Creek.
