Seminoles top Caldwell for Baker’s 300th win; Bulldogs win in overtime

CALDWELL — The Monroe Central Seminoles girls basketball squad got the better of Caldwell in a long-range face-off on Monday, winning 51-43 on the road.

Monroe Central made nine three-pointers Monday, while Caldwell hit seven. Both teams had more 3-point makes than 2-point field goals.

Brylee McFrederick scored 12 points with eight rebounds for Monroe Central, while Mayzie Emery scored 12 points on four 3-pointers. Jadyn Miller made three 3’s to score nine. Jacey English grabbed 10 rebounds.

The victory was Monroe Central head coach Troy Baker’s 300th career victory.

Breighlee Moracco led Caldwell with 14.

Bridgeport 49, Madonna 46, OT

BRIDGEPORT — The Bulldogs broke into the win column with their narrow overtime victory over the visiting Blue Dons on Frank Baxter Court inside the John J. Havlicek Gymnasium.

Hanna Brewer blistered the nets for a game-best 20 points, while Kaylee Baxter added 12 and Addie Snodgrass 10.

Madonna led 20-17 at the half and 30-26 at the end of three quarters before Bridgeport earned a 12-8 margin in the fourth to force overtime. In the extra session, Brewer had seven of her team’s 11 points.

Rosa Cody led the Blue Dons with 14 points. Taylor Birkhimer added nine and Sophie Brady eight.

Martins Ferry 56, Barnesville 43

BARNESVILLE — The visiting Purple Riders cashed in 20 of 28 free throw attempts to hold off the Shamrocks.

Giana Chirpas scored a game-high 23 for Martins Ferry. SJ Koller added 12 and Maddie Lucas had eight.

Avia Leasure paced Barnesville with 15. Lydie Welch had 11.

Shadyside 46, River 35

SHADYSIDE — The Tigers received 22 points from Kaci Tsoras in defeating the visiting Pilots.

Ava Wohnhas scored 14 for River. Zoey Fox added 11.
