Vinskovich scores 1,000th point in Jets win vs. Indian Valley

GNADENHUTTEN — Union Local’s Laken Vinskovich needed nine points on Wednesday to reach 1,000 in her high school career.

Vinskovich scored 22 in a road win vs. the Indian Valley Braves to eclipse the millennial milestone during a 62-32 drubbing in girls basketball action.

Vinskovich was followed by Ameera Saunders, who finished with 16. Alli Kellaway scored nine.

Union Local led 9-7 after the first quarter, but their lead had spiked to 33-21 by halftime, and only grew from there.

Bridgeport 33, Conotton Valley 24

BRIDGEPORT — The Bulldogs made it two wins in a row Wednesday night with a 33-24 victory over visiting Conotton Valley on Frank Baxter Court inside the John J. Havlicek Gymnasium.

Hanna Brewer had a double-double of 20 points and 10 rebounds. Kaylee Baxter had six points and four assists.

Monroe Central 64, River 36

HANNIBAL — The visiting Seminoles (9-3) sprinted to a 37-21 halftime lead and then coasted from there in defeating the Pilots.

Mayzie Emery knocked down five trifectas for 15 points. She was joined in double figures by Jacey English with 12 and Miley Bommer with 11. Bommer also had 10 rebounds, while Jadyn Miller had five steals and a like number of assists.

River’s Carleigh Trifonoff led all scorers in the game with 20.

Magnolia 47, Madonna 38

WEIRTON – The Blue Eagles ripped off a 9-0 run in the first quarter to build their lead, and a 9-1 run in the fourth, to secure the victory as they defeated the Blue Dons, 47-38, in a varsity-only game Wednesday night on Joanna Bernabei-McNamee Court inside the Bill Barrett Gymnasium.

Adalynn Welsh tallied a team-high 17 points to lead the way offensively for the Blue Dons, while Brady delivered 10.

Kaylee Yost collected a game-high 25 points to lead the way for the Blue Eagles, while Aubrey Warder added 10.

The victory enabled the girls from Wetzel County to sweep the season series. The Blue Eagles defeated the Blue Dons Dec. 13 at home.

Morgantown Defeats Brooke

WELLSBURG — The Mohigans picked up wins in both the boys and girls matches Wednesday against the Bruins inside Brooke Lanes II.

The Morgantown girls won 1194-1016. Kaylee Tuttle rolled the top score in both games for Brooke, with a 165 and 154.

Morgantown’s boys won 1737-1485. The Bruins’ Ty Lallone rolled his team’s top score in the first game with a 180, and Kai Bowers was the top performer in Brooke’s second game with a 175.
