Barnesville boys roll their way to Division II District bowling title

Buckeye Local’s Michael Kovalski qualifies for state individually

COSHOCTON — For the first time in program history, the Barnesville boys bowling team will be competing in the state tournament.

Thursday at Legacy Lanes, the Shamrocks rolled a team score of 3,766 to win the Division II Eastern District championship by 106 pins over River View.

Junior Bo Detling led Barnesville with a fourth-place finish as he rolled games of 199, 169 and 232 for 600 series. Senior Keegan Martin (222, 173, 184) had a 579 for fifth place, followed by juniors Cole Eddy (157, 163, 204) at 524 and Jacob Whitacre (153, 225, 138) at 516, which was good for 13th and 18th, respectively. Senior Colton Hall (121, 166, 159) finished 30th with a 446.

Senior Tristan Thompson did not compete.

Individually, Buckeye Local sophomore Michael Kovalski finished second with a 612 (194, 217, 201), just one pin behind Conotton Valley’s Michael Lorello.

The state tournament will be held on Friday, Feb. 27 at H.P. Lanes in Columbus.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Regular Season

John Marshall 65, Fairmont Senior 41

FAIRMONT — The Monarchs concluded their regular season slate with a road victory Thursday over the Polar Bears.

Rilee Storm led John Marshall with 15 points, one of four double-digit scorers for the Monarchs. Nora Shock scored 11, while Kaylee White and Paislee Babiczuk each scored 10.

Cameron 60, Magnolia 51

CAMERON — The Dragons put on a shooting exhibition to help them defend the Dragon’s Den against the Blue Eagles on Thursday.

Cameron made 10 3-pointers in the game, led by a blistering five longballs from Kendra Thomas, who finished with 15. Macey Bertram made three 3-pointers of her own and ended with a team-high 18 for the Dragons.

Kaylee Yost led Magnolia with 19 points, while Bella Sockman and Audri Quinn each had 12.

Wheeling Central 53,

Grafton 31

GRAFTON — The Maroon Knights kept a lid on the Bearcats’ scoring to bag a road win Thursday.

Erin Maxwell led the scoring push for Central with 22 tallies on 11 field goals. Bella Fitzsimmons scored 10 for the Knights.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Bruins 73, Edison 54

WELLSBURG — The Bruins sent their seniors off with a win on Thursday over the Wildcats.

Crosby Morris led Brooke with 19 points, also rejecting three shots. Pete Fodor was right behind him with 18 points to go with four assists.

Andrew Murdock supplied a dozen tallies, while Ty Sperringer scored seven points with six assists.

Monroe Central 74,

Barnesville 33

BARNESVILLE — The Seminoles rolled past the Shamrocks, led by Caedyn Silva’s 17 points, to nab their 18th win of the season.

Corbin Farnsworth scored 15 and Cooper Howell scored 11 for Monroe to join Silva in double figures.

Ryker Willis led Barnesville with 11 points.
