ST. CLAIRSVILLE — The 2025-26 high school wrestling season has been very, very good to Barnesville. That trend continued Tuesday.
The Shamrocks, with four individual champions, amassed 270.5 points to outdistance Beaver Local (220) to win their first-ever Buckeye 8 Tournament inside the ECO Center. Barnesville has won the OVAC Ron Mauck Class 3A title; the OVAC Bill Hinegardner Class 3A Dual Meet championship; and last weekend claimed the Ohio High School Wrestling Association Division III Regional Duals crown.
Winning titles were freshmen Jaxon Aberegg (120), Bentley Stephen (126), senior Hines Ford (175) and Christien Hannahs (215). Barnesville also had second-place finishers in Easton Stephen (106) and Colt Carpenter (144).
The Beavers, who won the OVAC Ron Mauck Class 4A title, had a trio of first-place finishers in Jordan Bates (106), Bobby Buchheit (144) and Nick Marra (190). Bates and Buchheit were OVAC Ron Mauck champs. They were without two other standouts in Jake Hughes and Evan Ours, wo, reportedly, didn’t have enough points..
Martins Ferry’s Nixon Brothers — Jayce and Colton — won their respective weight classes, 113 and 138, as the Purple Riders placed third with 207.5 points.
Indian Creek’s Ian Starkey (157) and Luke McMillion (285) each won titles, as did Union Local’s Gunnar Gossett (165).
The Jets competed without Brody Perzanowski (190) and OVAC champions Gamble Gossett (126) and Kolten Snyder (215). Perzanowski and Snyder, reportedly, were out of points, while Gossett was a scratch.
Other champions included Cambridge’s Noah Keen (132) and Marshall Laishley (150).
