Bridgeport boys bounce back

BRIDGEPORT — After a disappointing performance 24 hours earlier against Frontier, Bridgeport bounced back with a convincing, 63-27, victory over visiting Buckeye Local on Frank Baxter Court inside the John J. Havlicek Gymnasium.

The Bulldogs (13-3) led 14-7 after one quarter before putting up 26 points in the second to take a 40-14 advantage.

Coen Brinker netted 20 points — half coming in the third quarter — and Jaleel Vincent added 18, including a perfect 8-for-8 effort from the foul line. Jaki Threet finished with 10 points.

Bridgeport drilled eight three-point goals.

Matt Morris had nine points to lead the Panthers, who were an ice-cold 4 of 13 from the charity stripe.

River 63, Magnolia 51

NEW MARTINSVILLE — Crestyn Isaly scored 22 and Kaden Hunt scored 15 as the Pilots downed the Blue Eagles on the road Wednesday.

Kingston Christen led Magnolia with a game-high 23, while Brayden Byers scored 14.

River led 49-44 after three quarters.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Bridgeport 45, Valley 44

BRIDGEPORT — Hanna Brewer became just the seventh female to reach the coveted 1,000-point club in program history as she poured in 25 points in the Bulldogs victory over the visiting Lumberjills on Frank Baxter Court inside the John J. Havlicek Gymnasium.

Brewer netted 12 of her total in the fourth quarter as the hosts held on. Kaylee Baxter added nine and Kate Jackson eight for Bridgeport.

Valley was led by Laken Dawson with 21.

Edison 59, Cameron 45

CAMERON — Kendra Thomas scored 22 for the Dragons, but the Wildcats got the better of Cameron on the road Wednesday.

Abby Carpenter led Edison with 23.

WRESTLING

Martins Ferry 57, St. Clairsville 18

ST. CLAIRSVILLE — The Purple Riders rolled past the host Red Devils on John Jenkins Court as Brycen Yourkovich (106), Braidyn Deitch Domyan (113), Silas Simpson (132), Keenan Lucey (144), Bryden Volan (190) and Isaac Clark (215) all recorded pins.

Steubenville 40, Union Local 36

STEUBENVILLE — Big Red received pins from Jailen Steave (113), Terahji Thompson (126), Julius Mullins (138) and Beau Hudson (285), with Hudson’s fall providing the margin of victory.

Gossett, Gamble (132), Preston Apostolec (150), Dominic Crum (157) and Gunnar Gossett (165) all registered pins for the Jets.

River, 46, Bellaire 32

BELLAIRE — The visiting Pilots received 16 points from Carleigh Trifonoff and 14 from Ava Wohnhas in defeating the Big Reds inside the ‘House of Champions.’ Lynn Jones and Zoey Fox had eight each.

Tamya Morgan led Bellaire with 15 points. Aubree Hines added 10.
