Patriots, Lumberjills earn lopsided wins

WHEELING — The Wheeling Park Patriots girls basketball squad took down the visiting Fairmont Senior Polar Bears in decisive fashion on Monday inside The Palace on the Hill, 55-35.

The Patriots’ Leah Young scored 14 points, hitting four 3-pointers on the game. Layla Pettit flirted with a double-double, finishing with nine points and 11 rebounds.

Italy Schroeder and Karringtyn Miller each had eight.

Valley 57, Notre Dame 25

PINE GROVE — The Lumberjills cruised to a Senior Night win on Monday, their two seniors powering them past the Irish.

Senior Laken Dawson scored 23 while fellow senior Michaela Miller went for a season-high 21 against Notre Dame. The two combined to hit six 3-pointers.

Valley led 29-12 at the half.

Magnolia 44, Wirt County 38

ELIZABETH — The Blue Eagles are traveling back to New Martinsville with a win in-tow over the Tigers.

Kaylee Yost led the way for Magnolia, scoring 19 points. Karlie Warder scored 11 in support.

The game was neck-and-neck until Magnolia created some separation in the third quarter, leading 35-29 entering the fourth frame.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Monroe Central 74, Belpre 54

WOODSFIELD — The Seminoles exploded in the second quarter to pull away from the Golden Eagles at home Sunday.

Leading 12-10 after one quarter of play, Monroe Central scored 25 in the second frame to lead 37-18 at halftime.

Cooper Howell led the way for the ‘Noles with 23 points– nine in the pivotal second quarter, where he hit three 3-pointers.

Corbin Farnsworth scored 16 for Monroe, 10 in the second quarter. Caedyn Silva made four 3’s in the game on his way to 14 points.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Shenandoah 71, Monroe

Central 56

SARAHSVILLE — The Zeps defended their homecourt Saturday against the Seminoles.

Monroe Central stayed neck-and-neck with Shenandoah through the first quarter, trailing 23-21, but fell behind 38-25 at halftime.

Mayzie Emery led Monroe Central with 21 points, while Julianna Wilson scored 10. Kennadi Jorris had six points and seven rebounds.

Brenna Leach scored 31 for Shenandoah.
