Belmont County Divisional Court Complex to host Amnesty Day
ST. CLAIRSVILLE — In assistance of the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles, the Divisional Court Complex of Belmont County will host an Amnesty Day from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. on March 23.
“Anyone with an Ohio license suspension is invited to come to the Divisional Court Complex and sit down with a BMV representative to see why they are suspended, discuss steps to obtain a valid license and most importantly see if they qualify for a large portion or all of their reinstatement fees to be waived,” Belmont County Northern Division Court judge Adam Myser said. “There are over 40 ways that drivers can have their privileges suspended in the state of Ohio and many drivers do not know that they are actively suspended. Often, it can be frustrating, difficult or time consuming to discuss these matters with busy local departments.”
He added that as a service to the community, the county courts will be setting aside a special date and time with additional BMV representatives to run records and provide details as to exactly what it will take to obtain valid driving privileges.
In addition, present for Amnesty Day will be representatives from the Belmont County Job and Family Services Department to assist with child support suspensions, entering into appropriate payment plans to reinstate suspended licenses and to assist the BMV in determining who qualifies for full amnesty. Many circumstances require drivers to carry state required insurance (SR-22), and therefore, local insurance representatives will be present to offer those policies.
“This is the third year we have provided this service. It has proven to be a win-win event. We get drivers valid with their driving privileges, therefore relieving further citations and traffic offenses. In addition, we are providing the folks with an opportunity to get valid at little to no cost with qualifying for Amnesty,” Myser said. “With the assistance of DJFS, the county is collecting necessary funds to assist with the repayment of back-child support. Please come out to the Divisional Court Complex to see if you qualify for Amnesty or whether any of the other services can assist you in obtaining a valid license or valid driving privileges.”
