High School Roundup: John Marshall, Wheeling Park Sweep Doubleheaders

MOUNDSVILLE — The John Marshall Monarchs had a ball Saturday, defeating visiting Fairmont Senior in both ends of a double-header, 16-0 and 15-0.

In the first game, the Monarchs’ Masyn Inclan drove in four runs on three hits to lead John Marshall past Fairmont Senior 16-0 at John Marshall High School. Inclan tripled in the third inning, scoring three runs, and singled in the third inning, scoring one.

All-told, John Marshall scored 10 runs in the third inning. Inclan tallied four RBI on two hits in the inning, Kaylee White doubled, scoring one run, while Nora Shock, Lily Dijkstra and Paislee Babiczuk singled, Paislee Babiczuk singled, each scoring one run. Two errors also accounted for two runs in the frame.

Dijkstra earned the win for John Marshall. She surrendered one hit over three innings, striking out eight and walking none.

In the second game, Paislee Babiczuk drove in four total runs between a third-inning double and a fourth-inning single as the Monarchs raced out to another abbreviated victory, 15-0.

John Marshall got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after White singled to center field, Ella Finley walked, and Elaina Taylor singled to center field, each scoring one run.

The Monarchs added to their lead in the bottom of the second after Inclan hit a sacrifice fly, White hit a sacrifice fly, and Emma King doubled to center field, each scoring one run.

John Marshall added two runs in the third on Babiczuk’s double to right field, making the score 8-0.

The Monarchs scored seven more in the fourth inning. Finley earned the win for John Marshall, striking out six, walking two, and allowing no hits.

Wheeling Park 17, Preston 2

Wheeling Park 11, Preston 2

KINGWOOD — The Patriots notched a pair of decisive victories on Saturday over the Knights.

In the 17-2 win, Kylah Cunningham led Park with four RBI, belting two home runs. Grace Tamburin had three RBI on a double and a single.

Harmony Bittner homered and doubled, driving in two runs, while Ava Harris and Brenna Tipton also drove in two apiece, each racking up three hits– a double and two singles.

Tipton also crossed home plate three times herself.

Bittner picked up the win inside the circle, striking out nine in the five-inning game.

In game two, Tipton and Bittner each knocked in two runs, Tipton enjoying a banner day where she finished a triple shy of the cycle, hitting two singles, a double and a home run. She scored thrice once again. Bittner tripled.

London Fankhouser picked up the win this time for Park, striking out two and walking one over the full five innings of play.

Indian Creek 11, Union Local 4

Indian Creek 16, Union Local 14

WINTERSVILLE — Creek took both halves of Saturday’s doubleheader against the Jets.

Alli Kellaway, Edyn McGary and Myah Martin each tallied RBI in Creek’s 11-4 victory. Martin, Lily Blakely and Mati Brooks each finished with two hits. Kylie Stidd started for Union Local, pitching 3.1 innings.

In Creek’s 16-14 victory, Blakely, Khloe Gallagher and McGary each totaled three RBI. Blakely tripled, while McGary and Gallagher each homered. Martin finished a home run shy of the cycle, while Kylie Stidd finished with two RBI.

Evie Blakely started for the Jets and pitched 5.1 innings, striking out three.

BASEBALL

Central Dauphin 8, Linsy 0

HARRISBURG — Perennial Pennsylvania power Central Dauphin defeated the visiting Linsly Cadets on Saturday.

Tucker Doty started the game on the mound for Linsy, strikeout out four and allowing seven hits and one walk in four innings.

Chris Upton, Jaxon Murray, Dominic Fato, and Preston Hartley each collected one hit for Linsly.
