High School Roundup: Wohnhas Pitches, Hits River Past Valley, 5-0
SARDIS – It might have been the season opener, but River’s Ava Wohnhas is already in midseason form.
The Pilots ace inside the circle struck out 15 Valley hitters in a 5-0 victory. She didn’t walk a Lumberjill and allowed just two singles. At the plate, Wohnhas belted a two-run homer.
Cyla Jeffers slapped a pair of doubles that drove in two runs. Ja’chelle Hill singled twice and accounted for an RBI.
River hosts Toronto Tuesday.
Valley fell to 0-3.
Monroe Central 11, Frontier 2
BEAVERTOWN – Brylee McFrederick and McLaurin Craft each singled, tripled and drove in a run to lead the visiting Seminoles past the Cougars.
Olivia Earley added a double for the winners and RBI. Kennadi Loch and Allie McFrederick each knocked in two runs.
Kamryn Winland picked up the win in relief of Allie McFrederick. Winland fanned three and didn’t walk a batter. They teamed on a three-hitter.

WEIRTON — The Red Riders narrowly defended their homefield on Saturday against the Monarchs.
The game was a scoreless tie until the sixth inning, where both teams plated one run, Cain Martin driving one in during the top of the sixth.
Hayden Hughes doubled for John Marshall and started on the mound for the Monarchs, pitching 5.2 innings and striking out three.
