Meek no longer coaching or teaching at Steubenville Catholic Central

STEUBENVILLE — News broke Friday that long time area football head coach Eric Meek is no longer employed by Steubenville Catholic Central.

A memo to parents and staff at the school dated Friday stated that Meek was no longer a teacher or coach at Catholic Central and the information started to circulate on social media shortly thereafter.

No further information or reason for his departure was available as of Friday evening.

Meek had been the Crusaders’ head football coach for the past four seasons, guiding Central to the playoffs all four years.

The Crusaders went 6-5 this past season and 27-18 combined during his four seasons.

Meek was previously the head coach at three other OVAC schools, Toronto (1993-94, 2010-17), Weir High (2005-08) and Wellsville (1995-2002), winning a West Virginia state championship with the Red Riders in 2005.

The memo stated that the school had begun searching for a new head football coach.
