Ohio Sweeps OVAC All-Star Bowling

ST. CLAIRSVILLE — The best bowlers across the Ohio Valley converged on St. Clair Lanes last week for the annual Ohio vs. West Virginia OVAC All-Star Bowling match, taking place Sunday, March 8.

Ohio prevailed in both boys and girls competition, and the boys and girls Coaches of the Year and Bowlers of the Year each went to Ohio schools.

Buckeye Local’s Jerad Call was OVAC Girls Coach of the Year, and the Panthers’ Olivia Takach was OVAC Girls Bowler of the Year.

Barneville’s Chad Hall was OVAC Boys Coach of the Year, and the Shamrocks’ Keegan Martin was OVAC Boys Bowler of the Year.

Each of the All-Stars on either state’s roster was allowed to bowl two games, with the top 10 games combining into the team’s total score.

Ohio’s girls triumphed with 2459 total pins against West Virginia’s 2359 total pins. Top single-game performers for Ohio were Conotton Valley’s Lilly Booth, who bowled a 218, Martins Ferry’s Angel Toohey, who bowled a 203, and East Liverpool’s Danni Riggle, who bowled a 201.

For West Virginia, Weir’s Kylie Dunmyer bowled a 202, fellow Red Rider Teaghen Garcia bowled a 191, and Weir’s Makayla Moore bowled a 189.

Along with Takach, Booth, Toohey and Riggle, Ohio’s roster was filled out by Kailin Hughes (St. Clairsville), Lani Rudibaugh (East Liverpool), Payton Bell (Barnesville), Bralee Thomas (Harrison Central), Jocelyn Rosier-Wilson (Union Local), and Ashlyn Hammond (Conotton Valley).

Alongside Dunmyer, Garcia and Moore, West Virginia’s roster included Kaylee Tuttle (Brooke), Chasity Stevey (Brooke), Brenna Gardill (Linsly), Baylie Hinebaugh (Linsly), and Mackenzie Miller (Wheeling Park).

In boys competition, Ohio put up 2634 total pins against West Virginia’s 2424 total pins.

The top bowlers Sunday for Ohio were Conotton Valley’s Drew Herron, who bowled a 240, Union Local’s Logan Porter, who bowled a 224, and Martin, who bowled a 203.

For West Virginia, the best of their top-10 single games came from Wheeling Park’s Aaron Chao’s 208. Brooke’s Jason Beliveau bowled a 190, and Bruin teammate Alex Obeldobel, who bowled a 178.

Along with Herron, Porter and Martin, Ohio’s boys roster was comprised of Jayden McDole (East Liverpool), Colton Hall (Barnesville), Mikey Druschell (Beaver Local), John Frank (Buckeye Local), Aiden Petit (Harrison Central) and Justice Boehm (St. Clairsville).

West Virginia’s boys team, along with Chao, Beliveau and Obeldobel, consisted of Trey Varner (University), Brady Yost (Brooke), Jayden Davis (Weir), Alex Phillips (Weir), Andrew Hoang (Linsly), Ian Sincavich (Linsly), and Josh Kisner (University).
