Six Hilltoppers set for NCAA D-II Wrestling Championships

WEST LIBERTY — Six members of the West Liberty University men’s wrestling team will compete this weekend at the 2026 NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships, set for Friday and Saturday at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

The Hilltoppers qualified six wrestlers for the national tournament following a strong performance at NCAA Super Regional III, where West Liberty crowned three champions and placed fourth as a team.

West Liberty will face several highly seeded opponents as the tournament begins Friday.

At 125 pounds, Logan Davis (14-6) opens against No. 5 seed Eli Kirk (11-1) of Central Oklahoma in the first round.

At 133 pounds, James Armstrong Jr. will begin his tournament in a pigtail match against Gannon’s Dylan Chappell. With a victory, Armstrong would advance to face No. 8 seed Jacob Myers (13-3) of CSU Pueblo in the first round of the championship bracket.

At 141 pounds, No. 7 seed Khyvon Grace (25-6) earned one of the tournament’s top seeds after capturing the Super Regional III title. Grace will face the winner of the pigtail bout between Luke Kunath (18-5) of Belmont Abbey and Colton Hush (24-11) of Minnesota State.

At 157 pounds, No. 5 seed Nico Taddy (31-7) opens against Richie DeFulvio (13-9) of Millersville. Taddy enters nationals with one of the strongest records in the bracket after dominating the regional tournament.

Oliver Byerly (11-1) will face another top seed at 184 pounds, drawing No. 5 seed Kaden Hart (9-5) of Nebraska-Kearney in the opening round.

At 285 pounds, Parker Bentley (22-10) will take on No. 5 seed Freddie Retter (4-2) of Kutztown in his first national championship match.

West Liberty’s six qualifiers advanced through Super Regional III in Findlay, Ohio. Grace (141), Taddy (157), and Byerly (184) each captured regional championships, while Davis (125), Armstrong (133), and Bentley (285) secured runner-up finishes to earn automatic bids.

Action begins Friday with Preliminaries and first round matches at 11 a.m. followed by Quarterfinals and first- and second-round consolations Friday night 6 p.m. before concluding Saturday with the placement matches and national championship finals.
