High School Roundup: Barnesville Softball Wins Fifth Straight; Monroe Central, Linsly Post Victories

BARNESVILLE – Homestanding Barnesville built a 6-0 lead after three innings and cruised to a 7-3 victory over Shenandoah in high school softball action Tuesday night on the Memorial Park diamond in western Belmont County.

The win was the fifth straight for the Shamrocks (5-6).

Peyton Loudin drove in two runs with a single and double and also picked up the win inside the circle in relief of Ella Betts. Loudin struck out two and didn’t walk a batter. Betts chalked up three Ks. They yielded a combined seven hits.

Betts and Aubrey Johnson each singled twice and drove in one run. Emma Swan singled, doubled and knocked in a run.

Monroe Central 18, Union Local 2

WOODSFIELD – The Seminoles (7-1) belted out 16 hits in their rout of the host Jets for their fifth straight triumph.

Jadyn Miller (3 singles, 2rbi), Kamryn Winland (3 singles, 4rbi) and Maclarin Craft (2 singles, double, 2rbi) combined for nine hits and eight runs batted in for Monroe Central.

Winning pitcher Allie McFrederick added a single, double and three runs batted in, while striking out four and issuing no walks in three frames. Nevaeh Burdette singled twice and drove in a pair of runs. Kennadi Jorris had a single, double and RBI.

Alli Kellaway and Myah Martin each doubled for Union Local. Martin drove in two.

Linsly 11, Shadyside 7

WHEELING – Freshman Lily Spiker belted a walk-off home run as the Cadets rallied past the visiting Tigers at the Holloway Field Complex. She finished with two hits and four runs batted in.

Kimber Kotson had a base-clearing double, while Macy Sustik, Madison Applegarth and Reagan Van Scoyc all had run-producing singles.

Kaylie Warnock singled twice, doubled and drove in three runs for Shadyside. Reese Burkhart singled twice and plated a pair, while Cam Kolvek singled and doubled and Kari Zeroski and Bri Harris each singled twice.

Warren Local 7 John Marshall 6, 8 inn.

VINCENT – The host Warriors pushed a run across in the bottom of the eight to slip past the Monarchs.

Paislee Babiczuk singled, doubled and knocked in two runs for John Marshall. Ella Finley singled and doubled, while Kaylee White and Tessa Dougherty had run-scoring base hits.

The Monarchs committed seven errors. Masyn Inclan had two singles.

Oak Glen 11, Wheeling Central 0

ELM GROVE – The Golden Bears rode the two-hit pitching of Maddie Carney in blanking the Maroon Knights on Ben’s Field at the J.B. Chambers I-470 Complex. Carney struck out nine and didn’t walk a Maroon Knight.

Oak Glen scored seven times in the top of the first inning. It added four more in the third.

Maddie Miehle and Bella Rine each doubled for Wheeling Central (4-4), which committed five errors.

Bridgeport 11, Clay-Battelle 1

SHADYSIDE — The Bulldogs excelled in all areas Tuesday in a five-inning run-rule victory over the Cee Bees.

Hannah McKinley picked up the win inside the circle, striking out five, walking one and surrendering four hits.

Bridgeport had six extra base hits, including two home runs. McKinley and Hanna Brewer each earned round-trippers. Each had two RBI.

Vanessa Zelkowski and Kaylee Baxter each doubled. Baxter had one RBI, Zelkowski two. Addie Snodgrass doubled twice.

BASEBALL

Linsly 11, Williamstown 1

WHEELING – Tucker Doty struck out six, walked three and scattered five singles as the Cadets rolled past the visiting Yellowjackets at the Holloway Field Complex. He threw 85 pitches, with 54 being strikes.

Dom Fato and Jaxon Murray each singled in two runs, while Chris Upton and Brodi Prout singled, doubled and knocked in a run each. Preston Hartley singled in a run.

Morgantown 5, Wheeling Park 4

MORGANTOWN – The Patriots scored four times in the top of the first but wouldn’t touch the plate again as the Mohigans scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the sixth.

Braylon Bartsch singled thrice and drove in a run for Wheeling Park. Bodie Cox added a two-run double and Nolan Yanchak had a run-producing base hit. Miles Goby doubled.

John Marshall 4, University 3

MOUNDSVILLE — The Hawks jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first inning, but the Monarchs scratched one across in the sixth and walked off University with a three-run seventh inning.

Cain Martin homered, Hayden Hughes had a two-run knock and Mason Markonich also drove in a run to account for John Marshall’s late-game offense. Martin, Jacob Cisar, Jayden Astipalitis and Jesse McDowell each scored.

Kayden Knapp pitched the first four innings for the Monarchs and Rico Beveridge pitched the final three. Knapp struck out four and Beveridge punched out five.

BASEBALL

Barnesville 24, Bellaire 2

NEFFS – The Shamrocks (4-1) exploded for 12 first-inning runs and added eight more in the second in rolling past the host Big Reds on John Blacker Field.

Parker Sobutka led the winners’ 10-hit attack with a pair of singles that drove in three runs. Gunner Dudzik singled and doubled to knock in two runs, while Jaxton Swallie had a pair of RBI on two singles. Braylon Lucas singled in two; Max Miller doubled in a pair and Jack Anderson had a two-run single.

Bobby Thompson worked all five innings on the mound, striking out nine, walking one and allowing two singles.
