CHARLESTON — The Wheeling Central Maroon Knights baseball team picked up two wins on Saturday, going down to Charleston to face Charleston Catholic and Logan.

The Knights defeated Charleston Catholic 16-5, with eight Central players tallying an RBI. Brady Ernest hit two triples and a single to finish with three RBI, while Zayne Rosnick tallied three base hits to drive in three.

Koy Lipinski doubled, homered and drove in two. Clay Petry also doubled, homered and drove in two– adding a single as well for three total hits. Jake Drown tripled and homered as part of a four-hit, two-RBI day. Kade Koroneos tripled, singled and drove in two. Central had 23 total hits as a team.

Steven Brodegard struck out seven in six innings, earning the win. Matt Criniti pitched the final inning.

Wheeling Central defeated Logan 4-1, receiving strong outings from Brady Ernest and Jake Brown on the mound. Ernest allowed one run across six innings, striking out four, and Brown picked up the save in the seventh, allowing one hit and striking out one.

Ernest, Brown, Kade Koroneos and Zayne Rosnick all doubled at the plate.

Barnesville 3, Ridgewood 2

WEST LAFAYETTE — The Shamrocks survived a late Generals comeback to claim a road win Saturday.

After Barnesville scored three runs in the top of the third inning, Ridgewood plated two in the bottom of the seventh but couldn’t equalize.

Bobby Thompson pitched five shutout innings starting the game for Barnesville, earning the win and striking out six. Bentley Stephen pitched into the seventh, striking out three, and Keegan Martin entered with two outs in the seventh inning, striking out a batter to secure the save and end the game.

Martin also hit a double in the game. Parker Sobutka and Dylan Blon tallied RBI for the ‘Rocks.
