High School Roundup: Indian Creek Explodes Against East Liverpool

EAST LIVERPOOL – Leading 4-0 after two innings, visiting Indian Creek put up 13 runs in the top of the third and then added 10 more an inning later en route to a convincing, 29-1, victory over East Liverpool.

Hunter Rusnak (3 singles, double) and Adam Brothers (single, home run) evenly divided 10 RBI as the Redskins collected 17 hits.

Gavin Pownall (2 singles) and Sylus Hyde (2 singles, double) each drove in three runs, while Ian Starkey also had three runs batted in.

Three Indian Creek pitchers – Preston Heath, Adam Brothers and Garrin Clark – combined on a three-hitter.

Martins Ferry 1, Cambridge 0, 10 inn.

CAMBRIDGE – Clayton Snyder singled in Eli Smith the game’s lone run with two out in the top of the 10th inning at Don Coss Stadium as the Purple Riders (4-2) avenged a loss earlier in the week. Smith had reached second on an error.

Smith also picked up the win in relief of Ford Hughes who went eight innings.

Barnesville 14, Bellaire 3

BARNESVILLE – For the second time in three days, the Shamrocks (5-1) have defeated the Big Reds in five innings.

Max Miller had three hits and drove in two runs for Barnesville, while Gunner Dudzik also drove in three runs with a single and double. Blake Burkhart added a two-run single and Cole Atkinson singled in a run.

Jordan Lednik singled in a run for Bellaire.

Jackson VanFossen picked up his first varsity win with seven strikeouts and two walks in five innings. He gave up three singles.

Union Local 9, St. Clairsville 7

ST. CLAIRSVILLE – An eight-run top of the third inning was all the visiting Jets needed at Memorial Park in their win over the Red Devils. The victory avenged a loss earlier this week.

Colby Carpenter singled twice and drove in two runs while Eli Rogers added a two-run single. Trent White, Evan Pozviak and Wyatt Ogilbee all had run-producing base hits.

Niko Jacob singled twice and doubled to lead St. Clairsville. Roby Hanna singled twice and knocked in a run. Jaxon Starks produced a run with a single.

Brody Gregor earned the win. Colten Florence took the loss.

Morgantown 9, Linsly 2

WHEELING – The visiting Mohigans broke open a 1-all deadlock with five runs in the third and three more in the fourth to run away from the Cadets at the Holloway Field Complex.

Five different Linsly players had one hit, with Jaxon Murray recording an RBI double.

Martins Ferry 18, Cambridge 7

CAMBRIDGE – The Purple Riders (11-1) played long ball at City Park in their second five-inning victory over the Bobcats in three days. They collected 21 hits, with five being home runs.

Giana Chirpas belted a grand slam in the third inning and added a three-run shot an inning later. She also singled to account for seven runs batted in. Jayde Carman also homered twice, driving in three teammates. Maddie Lucas concluded the homer parade with a three-run shot in the second. She also singled twice and drove in six runs.

Gracie Lucas and Tori Long each doubled, with Lucas knocking in a run. Ella Mamone singled twice and had one RBI. Makayla Cole singled thrice.

Monica Tedeschi earned the win with three innings of six-hit ball. She struck out three and walked one. Mamone worked the final two frames.

Wheeling Central 11, Toronto 2

Wheeling Central 16, Toronto 0

ELM GROVE – The Maroon Knights earned a doubleheader sweep of the visiting Red Knights on Ben’s Field at the J.B. Chambers I-470 Complex.

In the first game, Maddie Miehle singled and homered, while Morgan Miehle singled and doubled. Sydney Hupp, Leah Rotilio and Darcie Gardill all doubled. Katie Jakovich-Palmer had two singles.

Hupp struck out four, walked one and scattered six hits.

In the nightcap, the Maroon Knights scored in all five innings as Jakovich-Palmer tossed a one-hitter with four strikeouts and a walk.

Olivia Kiaski singled three times and Berklrigh Heller had a pair of doubles. Maddie Miehle and Chloe Groome each singled twice and doubled.

John Marshall 20, Parkersburg 1

PARKERSBURG – The Monarchs scored all of their runs in three innings in routing the Big Reds.

Ella Finley drove in four runs with a single and double as John Marshall recorded 19 safeties. Masyn Inclan singled thrice to plate a pair. Emma King doubled twice to knock in three runs, while Gianna Polsinelli stroked a solo home run. Paislee Babiczuk singled and doubled to account for three RBI. Nora Shock and Tessa Dougherty combined for four singles and three runs batted in, with Shock having two.

Grace Seidler picked up the win with five strikeouts, three walks and four hits allowed.

Shadyside 8, Buckeye Trail 2

SHADYSIDE – The Tigers built an 8-0 lead after four innings and cruised past the visiting Warriors behind the four-hit pitching of Kamryn Parker. She struck out four and walked a like number in going the distance inside the circle.

Kayla Warnock drove in three runs for Shadyside, while Cam Kolvek singled, tripled and drove in another. Emma Gorrell and Layla Samsa each singled, doubled and plated a run.

St. Clairsville 12, Union Local 10

ST. CLAIRSVILLE — The Red Devils won a high-scoring matchup on Wednesday on their home field against the Jets.

Kylie Stidd finished with a game-high four RBI for the Jets, whacking a double and a single on the day. Alli Kellaway also doubled and singled. Lily Blakely collected three hits and two RBI. Myah Martin doubled and Edyn McGary tripled for Union Local. Mati Brooks also had a multi-hit day.

Grace Miller and Molina Price each finished with two RBI for St. C. Miller tripled and Price doubled.

Union Local committed nine errors Wednesday. St. Clairsville committed two.

Barnesville 6, Bellaire 4

BARNESVILLE — All the action came in the first three innings Wednesday, where the Shamrocks and Big Reds did all of their scoring in a Barnesville home victory.

Peyton Loudin earned the win pitching for the ‘Rocks, striking out eight while pitching the whole game. She also drove in two runs at the plate.

Ella Betts tripled for Barnesville and knocked in a run. Sophie Carpenter and Roselyn Anderson also had RBI.

Marissa Pacifico took the loss for Bellaire, striking out four in six innings. Addison Kovach belted a third-inning home run and finished with three RBI. Calleigh Holt also drove one in. Emilee Menendez tripled.

Wheeling Park 5, Weir 2

WEIRTON – Weir jumped out to an early 2-0 lead against Wheeling Park, but the Patriots plated one run in the third and four more in the fifth en route to a victory Wednesday evening up at the Roberta “Birdie” DeFrancis Softball Field.

Eliza Utt struck out eight without walking a batter for Weir, but the senior standout took the loss. Offensively, Utt reached twice – once on a bunt single, stole a base and scored a run.

Illiona Kirlangitis tallied the only other hit – a leadoff single in the bottom of the seventh – in the game for the Red Riders.

London Fankhouser delivered the win in the circle for the girls in blue. Fankhouser finished the game with four strikeouts and four walks.

The visitors outhit the hosts, 6-2, and the girls from Ohio County collected two extra-base hits in the win.
