High School Roundup: Linsly Splits Pair In Pa.; Barnesville Blanks St. C.

MERCERSBURG, Pa. – Linsly split a pair of games Friday in the Reisner/Gift Invitational baseball tournament at Cannon Field on the campus of Mercersburg Academy.
Linsly 17, Mercersburg Academy 3
The Cadets (4-2-1) scored seven times in the top of the first inning and never looked back in routing the host Storm in six innings. Leading 11-3, Linsly erupted for six more runs in the sixth to seal the deal.
Preston Hartley paced the Cadets’ 17-hit attack with two singles and a home run that accounted for four runs batted in. Gerardo Vergas Echavarria and Jaxon Murray had three hits each and drove in a run. Murray missed hitting for the cycle by a home run, while Vargas Echavarria had a single and two doubles. Chris Upton (single, double), Kolson Ludolph (2 singles) and Brodi Prout (single, double) all knocked in a pair of runs.
Vinny Gorrence was the beneficiary of the outburst as he went the distance, striking out three and walking none. He spaced out five hits while throwing 84 pitches, of which 53 were strikes.
Perkiomen 5, Linsly 2
Murray continued to swing a hot bat with a single and double that produced a run. Tucker Doty doubled and Donavan Jones had a sacrifice fly.
Barnesville 9, St. Clairsville 0
ST. CLAIRSVILLE – Senior lefty Dylan Blon fired a two-hitter – both singles – and struck out seven as the Shamrocks (3-1) blanked the reeling Red Devils (1-3) on the Memorial Park diamond. The game was moved from Barnesville’s Memorial Park due to wet conditions. Blon threw 110 pitches, with 70 being strikes and became the all-time leader in program wins.
Jack Anderson drove in a run for Barnesville with a single and double. Max Miller had two singles that produced a run. Parker Sobutka had an RBI single.
The Red Devils committed three errors, with only four of Barnesville’s runs being earned.
The Shamrocks have won three straight after a season-opening loss to Union Local.
St. Albans 14, Wheeling Park 5
HUNTINGTON – The Patriots recorded a dozen hits but stranded 11 runners on base during their second game in the Highlander Classic at Jack Cook Field on the campus of Marshall University.
Braydon Bartsch led the Wheeling Park hit parade with three singles, while Brody Groome singled, doubled and drove in two runs. Jaxon Updegraff singled twice to plate a run. Nolan Yanchak, Preston Heatherington and Rylan Moore all drove in a run each.
Cambridge 6, Union Local 5
CAMBRIDGE – The Bobcats (4-0) pushed a run across in the bottom of the seventh to edge past the visiting Jets (2-2) at Don Coss Stadium.
Wyatt Ogilbee had three singles and an RBI for Union Local. Brody Gregor drove in a run with a pair of one-base hits, while Karson Gregaitis singled in another.
John Marshall 1, East Fairmont 0
MOUNDSVILLE — The Monarchs’ Hayden Hughes won a pitchers duel Friday as John Marshall took down the Bees.
Cain Martin scored the game’s only run on a Kayden Knapp base hit in the bottom of the third inning. Martin finished with two hits on the day.
Hughes tossed a complete game one-hitter as John Marshall’s defense was on-point. Hughes struck out two and walked three. The Monarchs defense committed one error. East Fairmont committed two.
The Monarchs’ Jayden Astipalitis drew three walks.
SOFTBALL
Shadyside 10, Bridgeport 7
SHADYSIDE – An eight-run third inning sparked the Tigers past the Bulldogs at the Mead Township Park Complex.
Cam Kolvek singled, doubled and drove in two runs for Shadyside, which took advantage of six errors by Bridgeport. Alli Weatherson doubled in a run, while Layla Samsa and Kari Zeroski had run-producing singles.
Weatherson struck out nine, issued four free passes and spaced out seven hits.
Addie Snodgrass knocked in three runs for Bridgeport with a single and double. Hannah McKinley belted a solo homer and Hanna Brewer singled, tripled and drove in a run.

SOFTBALL
Hendersonville 3, John Marshall 1
PIGEON FORGE, Tn. – The Monarchs fell to the Commandos during their spring trip to the Volunteer State.
Tessa Dougherty doubled in John Marshall’s lone run in the fifth inning. Nora Shock added a double.
John Marshall 14, Leslie County 1
The Monarchs bounced back as Shock came up a home run shy of hitting for the cycle. She also drove in a run.
Kaylee White drilled a pair of triples and knocked in two runs, while Ella Finley stroked a two-run homer. Masyn Inclan had a single, double and two runs batted in. Elaina Taylor singled twice to plate a pair of teammates, while Paislee Babiczuk drove in a pair with a base rap. JoJo Holland also singled in a run.
Finley went the distance inside the circle, striking out five, walking one and scattering three hits.
Linsly 7, Cameron 3
CAMERON – The visiting Cadets received two-run singles from Alyssa Heath and Madison Applegarth in defeating the Dragons.
Aubrei Joanou had a single and double for Linsly, while Macy Sustik and Reagan Vansyoc each knocked in a run.
Layla Markwas earned the win with four innings of work inside the circle. She struck out three. Applegarth had the three-inning save with five strikeouts.
Emma Fox singled twice and drove in a run for Cameron. Cali Lucey had a run-scoring triple and Chloew Ebert singled in a tally.
