High School Roundup: Tamburin Shines On Senior Night For Wheeling Park Softball Team
WHEELING – Grace Tamburin will remember her Senior Night as a member of the Wheeling Park softball team.
The Patriots’ lone upperclassman went 5-for-5 with two singles, a double and a pair of home runs to drive in seven runs as the hosts outscored Bellaire 18-10 Tuesday at the Wheeling Park Athletic Complex.
Mikayla Alderman also registered five hits – 4 singles and a double – to knock in four runs as Wheeling Park bashed out 23 hits.London Fankhouser accounted for three RBI with two singles and a double, while Kyah Cunningham and Harmony Bittner each singled, doubled and plated a run. Ava Harris singled and doubled. Alivia West singled twice and knocked in a run.
Addison Kovach homered twice and drove in four runs for the Big Reds. Calleigh Holt singled thrice and knocked in a run. Lily Zeller doubled twice and Emilee Menendez singled and doubled to produce a run.
Linsly 8, Caldwell 0
WHEELING – Madison Applegarth scattered four hits as the Cadets blanked the visiting Redskins at the Holloway Field Complex. She struck out five.
Hailey Driscoll, Reagan Vansyoc and Aubrei Jonaou all singled in runs for Linsly, which scored four times in the second and added four more an inning later.
Caldwell entered the contest ranked No. 1 in OVAC Class 2A.
John Marshall 4, Morgantown 3
GLEN DALE – For the second time in two nights, the Monarchs have edged past the Mohigans in a battle of W.Va.-ranked powerhouses. John Marshall, which is ranked No. 1 in Class AAA, prevailed 2-1 Monday night in Morgantown.
After Morgantown scored three times in the top of the first, John Marshall tallied twice and added two more in the fifth, with the go-ahead and eventual game-winning run coming on Kaylee White’s single.
Emma King singled twice and doubled in the No. 9 hole, while Nora Shock and Masyn Inclan had run-scoring doubles. Ella Finley had a run-producing base hit.
Morgantown was No. 2 in Class AAAA.
Barnesville 10, Shenandoah 6
SARAHSVILLE – The visiting Shamrocks tallied nine of their runs in the first three innings in defeating the Zeps.
Emma Swan and Ella Betts evenly divided two doubles and a pair of homers that produced six runs. Peyton loudin singled twice and doubled, while Sophia Carpenter drove in a run with a single and double. Roselynn Anderson singled twice and had an RBI.
Clay-Battelle 7, Magnolia 5
BLACKSVILLE — The CeeBees narrowly defeated the Blue Eagles on Tuesday.
Jessa Anderson notched three hits out of the leadoff spot, reaching four times in total and scoring all four times. Bella Sockman hit a triple and drove in two runs, while Sidney Knight doubled and had one RBI. Audri Quinn also doubled.
Brooklynn Ponceroff finished a home run shy of the cycle for Clay-Battelle, driving in three. She also pitched the final 1.1 innings of the game for the CeeBees to earn the save.
BASEBALL
Barnesville 3, Buckeye Trail 1
OLD WASHINGTON – Dylan Blon continued to add to his career record pitching wins as he went seven innings, allowing seven hits and striking out 11 for the Shamrocks (10-3).
Parker Sobutka and Braylon Lucas each singled in runs for Barnesville. Brayden Watters had a triple.
River 7, Bridgeport 3
HANNIBAL – The Pilots navigated past the visiting Bulldogs as Kaden Hunt picked up the win on the mound.
Maverick Marty singled twice and drove in two runs for River. Easton Huntsman and Wyatt Stadler both singled twice.
Jaki Threet, Gage Drummond and Carson Sauvageot all had an RBI for Bridgeport.
John Marshall 3, Union Local 0
MOUNDSVILLE — The Monarchs plated three runs in the second inning for all the scoring they’d need in a shutout victory Tuesday at home against the Jets.
It was a three-run home run off the bat of Aidan Clegg that accounted for all of John Marshall’s scoring Tuesday, bringing around himself, Landen Snyder and Kayden Knapp.
Hayden Hughes pitched a beauty on the mound, going the distance and striking out seven to earn the win. He allowed just two hits and walked none.
Evan White knocked a double for Union Local. He was also saddled with the loss, striking out two and scattering five hits across six innings.
