High School Roundup: Union Local Walks By Monroe Central

WOODSFIELD – Union Local took advantage of 14 base-on-balls and four errors in posting an 18-8 victory over host Monroe Central Saturday in high school baseball action.

The contest was deadlocked at 7 after two innings before the Jets tallied nine runs in the third and fourth innings to pull away.

Colby Carpenter drove in five runs with a three-run homer and single, while Kam Gordon also belted a three-run roundtripper. Karson Gregaitis added a single and double that produced a pair of runs. Brody Gregor and Eli Rogers each had a two-run single.

Drew landefeld singled thrice for the Seminoles and knocked in two runs. Preston Binegar singled, doubled and drove in a run, while Max Demchak singled in a pair of runs and Caedyn Silva had two singles.

Linsly 11, Bradfording Christian Academy 0

MERCERSBURG, Pa. – The Cadets (6-2-1) collected 13 hits and Preston Hartley only permitted two as they rolled to another victory Saturday in the Reisner/Gift Invitational baseball tournament at Mercersburg Academy.

Tucker Doty singled twice and drove in three runs for Linsly. Jaxon Murray doubled twice to account for two RBI, while Chris Upton (single, solo homer) and Hartley (2 singles) also had multi-hit games.

Brodi Prout singled in two runs and Donavan Jones belted a two-run homer.

Hartley struck out four and walked one in five innings.

Hurricane 13, Wheeling Park 3

HUNTINGTON – The Hurricanes scored in four of the five innings in running away from the Patriots during the Highlander Classic at Jack Cook Field on the campus of Marshall University.

Kolten Whitmire singled and doubled for two of the five Wheeling Park base hits. Jaxon Updegraff added a run-scoring single.

John Marshall 13, Fairmont Senior 6

RACHEL — The Monarchs racked up the runs against the Polar Bears, turning 12 hits and 11 walks into a baker’s dozen on the scoreboard.

Kain Ankrom had a huge day for John Marshall, collecting four hits, including a double, to drive in three and score three times himself. Landen Snyder likewise totaled three RBI.

Jayden Astipalitis finished with two RBI, and Jacob Cisar and Cain Martin each had one ribbie.

Hayden Hughes doubled.

Aidan Clegg and Jesse McDowell combined on the mound. McDowell picked up the win, pitching 4.2 innings and striking out seven, allowing two runs.

John Marshall 9, North Marion 5

RACHEL — The Monarchs scored three in the sixth inning to seal a victory over the Huskies.

Mason Markonich, Landyn Roberts and Kayden Knapp each pitched for John Marshall, Roberts earning the win in two innings of work. Knapp struck out six in 2.2 innings.

Kain Ankrom doubled for the Monarchs, drove in one run and scored once. Cain Martin collected two hits and two RBI. Landen Snyder had two RBI as well.

SOFTBALL

Barnesville 8, Buckeye Trail 6, 8 inn.

OLD WASHINGTON – The Shamrocks pushed two runs across in the top of the eighth inning to defeat the host Warriors.

Emma Swan singled four times and drove in a run as Barnesville pounded out 13 hits. Sophia Carpenter singled and tripled and Aubrey Johnson singled twice. Roselyn Anderson, Abygail Ady and Mariah Schaffer each added two-run doubles.

John Marshall 11, Station Camp 1

PIGEON FORGE, Tn. — Paislee Babiczuk collected three hits in three at bats as the Monarchs defeated the Bison on Saturday at Ripken Baseball. Babiczuk hit an inside the park home run in the fourth inning, doubled in the second inning, and singled in the fifth inning.

John Marshall was helped by a six-run fifth inning. Babiczuk singled, scoring one run, Aubrey Lilley singled, scoring one run, Kaylee White drew a walk, scoring one run, Masyn Inclan singled, scoring two runs, and Tessa Dougherty singled, scoring one run.

The Monarchs got on the board in the second inning after Ella Finley hit a solo inside the park home run.

Lily Dijkstra earned the win for John Marshall. She allowed eight hits and one run over five innings, striking out one and walking one.

John Marshall tallied 14 hits in the game. Inclan provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led the Monarchs with three runs batted in. The catcher went 2-for-4 on the day.

John Marshall 4, Floyd Central 2

PIGEON FORGE, Tn. — The Monarchs beat Floyd Central on Saturday at Ripken Baseball.

John Marshall opened the scoring in the first after Masyn Inclan hit a sacrifice fly.

An error gave John Marshall the lead, 2-1, in the top of the fourth.

In the top of the eighth, the Monarchs broke up the tie when Lily Dijkstra singled, scoring one run. Then a single by Kaylee White followed to extend the lead to 4-2.

Dijkstra earned the win for John Marshall. The pitcher gave up five hits and one run over five innings, striking out three and walking none. Grace Seidler started the game for the Monarchs. The righty gave up three hits and one run over three innings, striking out two and walking one.

Nora Shock, White, Tessa Dougherty, and Ella Finley each collected two hits for John Marshall

SOFTBALL

John Marshall 16, Hopewell-Loudin 0

PIGEON FORGE, Tn. – Grace Seidler struck out nine, walked one and allowed one single as the Monarchs routed the Chieftains in a game that was stopped after four innings.

Nora Shock continued to swing the hot bat with two singles and an inside-the-park home run. She finished with two runs batted in as John Marshall plated 10 runs in the top of the fourth.

Erica Seidler singled, doubled and drove in three runs, while Kaylee White singled, tripled and knocked in a run.

John Marshall 7, East Rutherford 1

Aubrey Lilley and Masyn Inclan each singled twice and plated runs, while Elaina Taylor had a run-scoring single.

Lily Dijkstra allowed six hits. She didn’t strike out a batter or walk a batter.
