DENVER (AP) — Mickey Moniak homered twice and the Colorado Rockies defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 4-1 on Sunday to salvage the finale of a three-game series.

Tomoyuki Sugano (1-0) struck out five and gave up one run in six innings for the Rockies.

T.J. Rumfield also homered for Colorado, hitting a two-run shot in a three-run first inning. Rumfield is hitting .345 with two home runs and five RBIs in his first nine games.

Victor Vodnik struck out Rafael Marchán with runners on first and second in the ninth inning to earn his first save of the season.

It was Moniak’s third career multi-home run game. The 27-year-old outfielder, who is in his second season in Colorado, was selected by the Phillies with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2016 MLB Draft and played for the franchise from 2020-22.

Adolis García homered in the second inning for Philadelphia. The loss snapped a four-game win streak for the Phillies, who left seven runners on base.

PADRES 8, RED SOX 6

BOSTON (AP) — Jackson Merrill had three hits, including a solo homer in the eighth inning that gave the Padres the lead, and San Diego rallied from a four-run deficit to beat Boston and send the Red Sox to their seventh loss in their last eight games.

Manny Machado connected for a three-run homer and ex-Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts also got three hits for the Padres.

The Red Sox scored four in the third inning but San Diego got three in the top of the fourth after Machado kicked away a pickoff attempt — perhaps not unintentionally — to put runners on second and third. Machado’s first homer of the season in the fifth gave the Padres a 6-4 lead.

Boston tied it in the seventh on Masataka Yoshida’s two-run double. It was his third straight hit after starting the season 0 for 10. Wilyer Abreu also had three hits for Boston.

RAYS 4, TWINS 1, 10 innings

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Richie Palacios hit a two-run homer in a three-run 10th inning, and Tampa Bay beat Minnesota.

Junior Caminero also went deep for Tampa Bay, which concluded a nine-game, 11-day, season-opening road trip with the 900th career win for manager Kevin Cash.

Leading off the extra inning, Palacios hit his first home run of the season to right field on the second pitch he saw from Justin Topa (0-1). A bases-loaded walk by Caminero scored another run.

Bryan Baker (1-0) struck out two of the three batters he faced in the ninth inning for the win. Kevin Kelly earned his second save with a scoreless 10th.

WHITE SOX 3, BLUE JAYS 0

CHICAGO (AP) — Davis Martin tossed six innings of four-hit ball to lead Chicago past Toronto for its first three-game sweep of the Blue Jays in 10 years.

Miguel Vargas had an RBI triple, and Lenyn Sosa and Austin Hays each drove in a run as the White Sox opened 3-0 at home for the first time since 2004. Luisangel Acuña got two hits for Chicago (4-5), which last swept the Blue Jays in April 2016 at Toronto.

Martin (2-0) struck out six and walked two in his second consecutive sharp start. Chris Murphy, Chicago’s third reliever, worked around a walk in the ninth for his first save this season and the second of his career.

Ernie Clement had two of Toronto’s six hits as the AL champion Blue Jays (4-5) dropped their fourth straight game and were shut out for the first time this season.

BREWERS 8, ROYALS 5

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — William Contreras had a double and two RBIs and Kyle Harrison struck out six as Milwaukee defeated Kansas City.

Harrison (1-0) allowed three hits and two runs in 5 1/3 innings, earning his first win since May 30, 2025. Christian Yelich was 2 for 5 with an RBI triple that opened the scoring in the first inning.

Jake Bauers hit a pinch-hit RBI double and later scored in the ninth to extend the Brewers’ lead, and Trevor Megill secured the win with his third save of the year.

Gary Sánchez hit a two-out, two-run homer in the first, his third of the season, to take a 3-0 lead. He had five homers in 29 games last season.

Maikel Garcia got the Royals within one with a two-run homer of his own in the third. After reaching on a walk and stealing second, Bobby Witt Jr. nearly tied the game on a Vinnie Pasquantino single but was thrown out at home by Luis Matos to maintain the Brewers’ 3-2 lead.

REDS 2, RANGERS 1

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Elly De La Cruz singled home the winning run in the eighth inning after scoring in the fourth inning with the use of his speed as Cincinnati beat Texas to sweep the three-game weekend series.

De La Cruz sliced an opposite-field hit to right field to score Matt McLain, who walked leading off the inning against Robert Garcia (0-1) and stole second base.

De La Cruz scored from second base in the fourth on Eugenio Suárez’s single up the middle after singling and tagging up on Sal Stewart’s 358-foot fly out to the warning track in right.

Sam Moll (1-0) retired one batter, striking out Brandon Nimmo with runners on second and third to end Texas’ seventh. Cincinnati’s Brock Burke struck out the side in the ninth for his first career save in 210 career relief appearances.

DODGERS 8, NATIONALS 6

WASHINGTON (AP) — Shohei Ohtani homered and hit a go-ahead sacrifice fly, and Los Angeles rallied from a five-run deficit to defeat Washington and complete a three-game sweep.

Teoscar Hernández and Dalton Rushing also homered for Los Angeles, which has won four of its last five.

Luis García Jr. and James Wood went deep for Washington, which has lost its last five.

The Dodgers scored four runs in the eighth off Cionel Perez (0-1), who loaded the bases before Santiago Espinal laced a two-run single to left-center. Perez was pulled without retiring a batter after he walked Will Smith, and Clayton Beeter surrendered Kyle Tucker’s RBI fielder’s choice to tie it at 6-6.

Ohtani then lifted a fly to left that brought in Espinal to make it 7-6. Ohtani went 2 for 4 and finished the series 6 for 15 with two homers and six RBIs. He has 17 RBIs in 17 games against the Nationals since joining the Dodgers.

Jack Dreyer (1-0) pitched a scoreless seventh for Los Angeles. Edwin Diaz worked the ninth for his third save.

Ohtani opened the scoring with a line shot to center in the third inning against Nationals starter Foster Griffin. It was the Dodgers’ only run against Griffin, who struck out six in five innings.

METS 5, GIANTS 2

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Pinch-hitter Luis Torrens keyed New York’s four-run eighth inning with a two-run double and the Mets made it three straight wins over San Francisco with a victory.

Jorge Polanco doubled off Keaton Winn (0-1) with one out in the eighth and then pinch-runner Tyrone Taylor moved to third on Luis Robert Jr.’s single.

Left-hander Erik Miller replaced Winn, and Torrens batted for Jared Young, who went 3 for 3. After Robert stole second, Torrens poked his double down the right-field line to give New York a 3-2 edge.

Mark Vientos followed with a hard-hit infield single and Torrens scored on third baseman Matt Chapman’s throwing error. Marcus Semien capped the rally with a double down the left-field line to knock in Vientos.

Kodai Senga and the Mets led 1-0 with two outs in the sixth before Chapman doubled into the left-field corner to bring home Patrick Bailey with the tying run.

Rafael Devers followed with a bloop single to center to send in Chapman, putting the Giants on top 2-1.

Logan Webb limited the Mets to a run on seven hits in seven innings. He struck out three and walked one.

DIAMONDBACKS 6, BRAVES 5, 10 innings

PHOENIX (AP) — Ketel Marte doubled on the first pitch of the 10th inning to score automatic runner Jorge Barrosa and Arizona beat Atlanta to split the four-game series.

Taylor Rashi, making his first appearance of the season, pitched a scoreless 10th for his victory in the majors. He was helped by shortstop Geraldo Perdomo, who made a backhanded stop on a sharp grounder while playing in and threw out Mauricio Dubón for the second out to keep the automatic runner at third.

Marte greeted Joel Payamps (0-1) with a line-drive double over the head of right-fielder Mike Yastrzemski for the winner. There were five lead changes in the game.

Corbin Carroll had three hits, including a tiebreaking triple in the seventh, and Ildemaro Vargas came off the bench to contribute a two-run triple for Arizona. He replaced first baseman Carlos Santana, who left with right groin tightness after a second-inning single.

Drake Baldwin drove in three runs for Atlanta, including a tying single in the ninth against Jonathan Loáisiga. Baldwin homered, his fourth of the season, off Diamondbacks starter Brandon Pfaadt.

ANGELS 8, MARINERS 7, 11 innings

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Nolan Schanuel drove in automatic runner Adam Frazier with a one-out sacrifice fly in the 11th inning to lift Los Angeles to a walk-off win over Seattle.

Mariners left-hander Gabe Speier (0-2) walked Zach Neto intentionally to open the bottom of the 11th, and both runners advanced on Ozwald Peraza’s sacrifice bunt.

Schanuel, who grounded into a double play with runners on first and third to end the eighth, lofted a fly ball to left fielder Randy Arozarena, whose throw home was off line.

Shaun Anderson (1-0) struck out Cal Raleigh with the bases loaded to end the top of the 11th. Anderson gave up a run in two innings pitched.

Mike Trout, who doubled and scored in the third, exited in the eighth after being hit on the left hand by Casey Legumina’s 94-mph fastball.

The teams exchanged runs in the 10th, Seattle scoring on Randy Arozarena’s RBI single and the Angels on Logan O’Hoppe’s sacrifice fly.

The Angels were one out away from victory in the top of the ninth when Raleigh blooped a two-out double and Julio Rodriguez poked Sam Bachman’s 91-mph slider to left for an RBI single and a 6-6 tie. Mariners closer Andres Munoz threw a 1-2-3 bottom of the ninth.
