Wheeling Central Blanks Barnesville; Rain Cancels Championship Game

BARNESVILLE – Steven Brodegard scattered seven hits as Wheeling Central blanked Barnesville 13-0 Saturday in a semifinal of the Shamrock Baseball Diamond Classic at Memorial Park. The Mercyhurst University signee struck out nine and walked one in five innings.

Akron St. Vincent St. Marys defeated Keystone LaGrange 8-7 in the other semifinal, but the consolation and championship games were cancelled due to weather.

Kade Koroneos led the Maroon Knights’ 11-hit attack with a trio of singles. Jake Brown clubbed a pair of doubles, while Zayne Rosnick and Clay Petry each had two hits.

Blake Burkhart and Dylan Blon had two singles each for the Shamrocks.

Linsly 7, North Marion 6

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – The Cadets held off the Huskies as Preston Hartley singled and doubled to drive in a run. Vinny Gorrence added a single and double, while Tucker Doty doubled in a run.

Linsly 10, South Harrison 0

Doty struck out four, walked a pair and allowed two singles as the Cadets blanked the Hawks.

Chris Upton laced a trio of singles and Jaxon Murray drove in two with a single and triple. Gerardo Vargas Echavarria added a two-run double. Brodi Prout singled twice and picked up an RBI.

Wheeling Park 9, Park. South 4

Kolten Whitmire doubled, twice, tripled and drove in three runs as the Ohio County Patriots prevailed over the Wood County Patriots. He also earned the win on the mound with five strikeouts and two walks in five innings.

Miles Gorby singled twice and doubled to chase in a run. Jaxon Updegraff had two singles and an RBI, as did Braydon Bartsch.

Tyler Consolidated 6, Madonna 4

KIDWELL – The Silver Knights managed a win over the Blue Dons, but both teams fell to eventual champion River.

Landon Boggs doubled and drove in two runs, while Ashton Morris, Sawyer Kunkle and Patrick Jones all had an RBI.

Maddox Bowen singled twice and knocked in a pair of runs for Madonna. Jacob Lazear also had a single, double and run batted in. Sam Brooks singled in another.

Regular Season

Bridgeport 24, Southern Local 4

BROOKSIDE – Gage Drummond singled four times to account for four RBI as the Bulldogs rolled the Indians on the Niekro Diamond.

Kannan Hildebrand singled, doubled and drove in four runs. Brode Brown had a double and three RBI. Xander Wilson had a double and two runs batted in.

Cameron 10, Frontier 7

Cameron 17, Ritchie County 6

CAMERON – The Dragons won a split doubleheader over the Cougars and Rebels, respectively.

In the opener, Landen Francis singled, doubled and homered to drive in three runs. Skyler Cooey had three singles and an RBI, while Talen Brown and Zayde Long evenly split four singles and two RBI.

Cameron trailed 7-5 entering the bottom of the sixth before scoring five times.

In the second game, Anthony Bellanco drove in three runs with three singles and a double. Hunter Evans knocked in five with a single and home run. Kason Angel singled twice to plate a pair.

SOFTBALL

Martins Ferry 6, Madonna 4

MARTINS FERRY – Gracie Lucas continued her torrid season with a three-run double in the bottom of the fifth that rallied the Purple Riders (17-1) over the Blue Dons (12-3). Makayla Cole singled twice and Ella Mamone and Alivia Reese recorded runs batted in.

Madison Owens had a two-run homer for Madonna in the first inning. She also singled. Peyton Conley had a single and double.

Maddie Lucas struck out 10, walked three and allowed half-a-dozen hits.

Wheeling Park 7, Lincoln 2

CLARKSBURG – The Patriots scored five times in their first at-bat and never looked back in defeating the Cougars at Robert C. Byrd High School.

Harmony Bittner drove in three runs with a single, double and home run, while Kylah Cunningham doubled twice to knock in a run. Ava Harris delivered a two-run homer.

London Fankhouser went the distance inside the circle, striking out two, walking a pair and spacing out seven hits.

Barnesville 3, Magnolia 0

SHADYSIDE – Hanna Brewer struck out 17, walked three and gave up three hits as the Bulldogs blanked the Blue Eagles. She also missed hitting for the cycle by a home run and drove in a run.

Addie Snodgrass had a two-run double. Kate Jackson singled and doubled.

Jessa Anderson had a double for Magnolia.

Monroe Central 18, Cameron 1

WOODSFIELD – Kennadi Jorris had a day to remember in the opener as she knocked in nine runs with a single, two doubles and a home run. Winning pitcher Allie McFrederick singled twice and homered to knock in three runs. Nevaeh Burdette had a two-run single.

McFrederick also tossed a one-hitter, striking out three and walking one in five innings.

In the nightcap, Olivia Earley swung the hot bat with a single, home run and five runs batted in. Maclarin Craft singled twice to produce a run, while Jorris singled twice and McFrederick blasted a solo homer.

Skye Dobbs doubled twice for the Dragons. Cali Lucey delivered a two-run single.

Union Local 10, Buckeye Trail 7

MORRISTOWN – The Jets swept past the visiting Warriors Eden McGary drove in four runs with three singles and a pair of doubles in the two games. Alli Kellaway added three singles, a double, a triple and two RBI.

Lily Blakely finished with three singles and a like number of RBI. Kylie Stidd had two singles, a double and four RBI.

Shadyside 9, Frontier 7

BEAVERTOWN – The visiting Tigers and Cougars split a pair.

Cam Kolvek was a double thorn in Frontier’s side in the opener as she went the distance inside the circle, striking out nine and allowing five hits in six innings. She also singled, doubled twice and knocked in a run.

Alli Weatherson added an RBI triple.

Weatherson singled in two runs in the nightcap. Kaylie Warnock singled in a run.
