Foundation Fights Series II To Crown Champs on May 16

GLEN DALE – Professional boxing will make its return to Marshall County on Saturday, May 16 when Black Ledger presents Foundation Fight Series II – The Crowning of Champions – inside Reilly’s Reception and Event Center.

Foundation Fight Series I was a sellout inside Linsly’s Stifel Fieldhouse, and Promoter Josh Baker is looking for more of the same.

“There were an extra 300-400 people that I didn’t expect,” he noted.

“Organization. Just getting things a little more in sync,” Baker said. “I’m really excited for this event.”

There will be up to 10 championship fights contested, with a title fight in every men’s weight class and some in the women’s division, as well.

The main event has Foundation Fight Series Heavyweight champion Illr Pllana (6-0) of Hedgesville, W.Va. against Josh Taflan (6-1) of Weirton. Pllana won the title belt with a unanimous three-round decision over Belmont’s Bradley Huntsman. Taflan, who fights out of the Bull Pen Fight Club in East Wheeling, is the Hard Knocks Heavyweight champion.

Both have Toughman championship jackets.

“It’s one of the best heavyweight matchups in this region right now,” Baker assessed. “It’s our main event.”

Co-Main Event features the women as Kersten McAbee, who also fights out of the Bull Pen Fight Club, meets Jacey Lovejoy of St. Albans for the Strawweight title.

“Both are Toughman champions and both are young,” Baker said. “They’ve got good careers ahead of them.”

Steubenville’s Dashawn Schaffer, also of the BPFC, meets Beckley’s Dalton Huffstretler for the Featherweight title. Huffstretler trains at Apex Combat Sports.

Bridgeport, Ohio’s Michael Kidwell will face Morgantown’s Czar Parrish for the Middleweight title. Kidwell is another BPFC competitor, while Parrish trains at Ground Zero Fighting Systems.

St. Clairsville’s Duncan Pagano, fighting out of Body Head Boxing Club in St. Clairsville, meets Grafton’s Jarod Newbraugh for the Welterweight belt.

Other local fighters are the card include Powhatan Point’s Rylee Knight, fighting of the Roosters’ Pit in Cameron; and Sam Karrasch and Colt Jackson, both of the BPFC.

Marvin Workman, of Leon, W.Va., goes up against Parkersburg’s Andreas Ellison for the Flyweight crown; Charleston’s Sammy Davis faces Miekuan Knight, of Columbus, for the Light heavyweight title.

Ravenwood’s Jordan Varney meets Zanesville’s David Leasure for the Bantamweight title.

“Reilly’s Reception and Events is located along W.Va. 2 across from John Marshall High School.

“The parking situation will be a lot better this time,” Beker said. “We’ve got all of John Marshall’s lots.”

Doors open at 5 p.m., with the first bell at 6.
