High School Roundup: Indian Creek Rebounds, Shuts Out St. Clairsville

MINGO – Indian Creek bounced back from a stunning loss to Linsly on Saturday in the OVAC Class 4A championship baseball game with a 2-0 blanking of visiting St. Clairsville Monday at the Muth Recreational Complex.

Parker Heath went the distance on the mound, striking out five, walking two and yielding just two hits. He threw 84 pitches, of which 49 were strikes. He helped his own cause with a run-producing single.

James Brothers added an RBI double and Luke McVicker also doubled.

Hudson Florence also pitched seven innings. The lefty fanned three, walked three and gave up five hits. His older brother, Colton, had a double.

Indian Creek visits the St. Clairsville Jr. Sports Complex Tuesday to meet Wheeling Central.

Barnesville 13, River 1

BARNESVILLE – The Shamrocks (15-4) built a 12-0 lead after two innings in their rout of the visiting Pilots at Memorial Park.

Blake Burkhart hurled all five innings for Barnesville. He struck out five, walked one and allowed four singles.

Dylan Blon drove in five runs for the winners with a single and triple. Brayden Watters (single), Keegan Martin (2 singles) and Gunner Dudzik (single, double) all drove in two runs each. Parker Sobutka singled in a run and Jack Anderson singled twice.

Four different River players had a single.

Barnesville plays at Indian Creek on Wednesday for the Buckeye 8 championship. The game will be played at the Muth Recreational Complex in Mingo at 5 p.m.

Martins Ferry 8, Beaver Local 1

EAST LIVERPOOL – Hunter Shutler pitched a complete game and Eli Smith drove in two runs with a single and double. Luca Shane added an RBI single and Silas Simpson doubled in another.

Steubenville Catholic 4, Bridgeport 2

BROOKSIDE – Luke Bryan led the Crusaders with two hits while Matt Jones earned the win on the mound at the Niekro Diamond.

Roman Sauvageot had two hits and a pair of ribbies for the Bulldogs.

Monroe Central 5, Frontier 4

WOODSFIELD – After the visiting Cougars tied the game in the top of the seventh, the Seminoles walked it off on an error in the bottom of the inning.

Maclarin Craft drove in three runs for Monroe Central with a single and triple. Kenndi Jorris ripped four singles, while Kamryn Winland singled and doubled and Karsyn Muncy had a run-producing base hit. Brylee McFrederick singled twice.

Buckeye Local 11, Shadyside 1

CONNORVILLE – The Panthers’ Karlie Lander became the program’s single-season strikeout leader with 126 as she fanned five Tigers in Monday’s game. She also added an RBI double.

Danika Bauknecht singled, doubled and knocked in a run as Buckeye Local scored three times in the third and six in the fourth before ending the contest via the marcy rule with a pair in the fifth.

Necia Hosenfeld contributed a run-scoring double. Addie Jones and Peyton Palmer had RBI singles.

Cam Kolvek singled and doubled to plate the lone Shadyside run.

Magnolia 13, Valley 8

PINE GROVE – The visiting Blue Eagles banged out 18 hits and scored a run in six of the seven innings in downing the host Lumberjills.

Jessa Anderson singled, doubled and homered to account for three RBI and Bella Sockman also knocked in three with a single, double and triple. Sophia Alexander had four singles and a double that produced two runs. Audri Quinn also plated a pair of runs with two doubles and a single.

Kennedi Dallison singled and doubled to drive in a run for Valley. Demi Long drove in a run with two singles and Ruthie Lemley had a two-run triple.

Caldwell 14, Union Local 3

CALDWELL — Caldwell defeated the Jets in six innings Monday.

Alli Kellaway had a multi-hit game for Union Local, shellacking a single and a double. Edyn McGary and Kylie Stidd also doubled for the Jets.

Makayla Mumaw led Caldwell, hitting two doubles and a home run to drive in four. She also pitched all six innings, striking out a dozen.
