High School Roundup: Shadyside’s Collins, Crozier Combine For No-Hitter In Win

SHADYSIDE – Ryan Collins and Luke Crozier combined on a no-hitter Thursday night in leading Shadyside past visiting Conotton Valley in an Ohio Division VII, East 1 sectional co-final on Fleming Field.

Collins, a lefty, fanned 13 and walked three before reaching 120 pitches – 72 strikes – through six frames. Crozier finished the no-no with a strikeout and a walk.

Collins helped his own cause with two singles that plated a pair of runs. Dominic Forgacs had a two-run single and Trent Marling singled in a run. Aaron Pacifico added an RBI.

The Tigers, seeded No. 4, will now face top-seeded Strasburg on Tuesday in a district semifinal at Strasburg. Strasburg blanked Steubenville Catholic, 9-0, on Thursday.

Indian Creek 7, Harrison Central 4

CADIZ – The Redskins (20-7) scored four times in the top of the third and then tacked on two insurance markers in the seventh to defeat the Huskies in a tuneup game for both squads at Mazeroski Field inside Sally Buffalo Park.

Indian Creek is seeded No. 1 in the Ohio Division III Eastern District and will host No. 4 Tri-Valley on Tuesday at the John Muth Recreational Complex in Mingo Junction. Harrison Central, meanwhile, is seeded second on Division V and will entertain No. 9 West Muskingum, also on Tuesday.

St. Clairsville 10, Cambridge 3

ST. CLAIRSVILLE – One night after advancing in the Ohio Division IV postseason, the Red Devils scored six times in the bottom of the first inning against the visiting Bobcats and never looked back.

Tyler Kosek, who earned the win, worked the first five innings on the mound, striking out two, walking a pair and giving up four hits. Niko Jacob struck out one in his two innings of hitless ball.

Colton Florence singled, doubled and drove in two runs for St. Clairsville. Jacob and Caiden Bailey each delivered RBI singles and Kaden Holmes had a run-producing base hit. Jaxon Starks and Roby Hanna evenly divided four singles.

The No. 7 Red Devils travel to West Lafayette on Tuesday to meet third-seeded Ridgewood in a district semifinal.
