Ninth Annual Bordas & Bordas Amateur Golf Classic Planned

WHEELING – The ninth Bordas & Bordas Amateur Golf Classic is set for June 13-14 at Oglebay Park’s Crispin Course (Par 71) in Wheeling. This is one of the oldest two-day, amateur golf tournaments in the tri-state dating back to the late 1920s.

A purse of $10,000 is up for grabs in Oglebay gift cards.

Proceeds from the tournament benefit the Oglebay Foundation and its Access to the Parks program, allowing underprivileged kids to use Oglebay and Wheeling Park for free. On average, these scholarships provide 15,000 annual park visits. The total cost of this program is roughly $200,000 a year – or the equivalent of $150 per scholarship.

More than 200 golfers will play in a 36-hole Medal & Best Ball event, including Junior (18-and-under) and Senior (50-and-older) divisions. Players with a handicap index of 7-or-more will play in the First Flight. Players with an index under 7 will play in the Championship Flight. There will also be a special prize for the lowest score of Super Seniors (65 and older).

The 2025 winner Ryan Bilby turned pro after last year’s tournament, after shooting a tournament-low 62 in the final round. Bilby (-14), who played locally at Brooke High School recently graduated after a stellar career at Marshall University, held off West Liberty

University’s Justin Doerr (-13) by 1 shot. Wheeling native Gavin Goodrich, who plays collegiately at California, Pa. was third at 11 under par. Goodrich and his college teammate Jack Hritsko, won the Best Ball title (-20) by one stroke over Bilby and his teammate Alex

Anderson, who played at Cleveland State University and Justin Doerr and his West Liberty teammate Noah Seivertson, who is now the Hilltoppers head coach.

Wheeling native Joe Doerr won the Senior Division at 4-under par. The Senior Division has been dominated by Wheeling’s Bob Clark over the years winning five straight titles from 2019-2023. Clark was runner-up in 2018.

The 2025 Junior Division winner was Mavrik Malin who is a senior-to-be at St.Clairsville High School. He won by 4 shots over John Marshall High School freshman Drew Marling who carded a sizzling 66 in the first round. Wheeling’s Bryan Courts, who now lives in Pinehurst, N.C. was the First Fight Champion (73-69).
