Jack Dorsey Tennis Tournament This Week At Oglebay

WHEELING — The Wheeling Oglebay Tennis Club will present the 2026 Jack Dorsey Memorial Senior Open Tennis Tournament from June 17 to 21 at Oglebay’s Horne Family Racquet Center and Wheeling Park’s Hilltop Courts.

This event is categorized as a men’s national level three, which draws players from across the country to compete for national ranking points.

Divisions include ages 35 to 90 singles and doubles, with age groups in five-year increments.

Play will begin on Wednesday evening and will conclude with most finals being played on Sunday, June 21. The schedule of play and match results will be available at the USTA website (https://playtennis.usta.com/tournaments) using the keyword Dorsey.

Kelly Molyneaux Rose is returning as tournament director, aving served in this capacity since 2019.

“We have five men who are currently ranked among the top 10 nationally in their age divisions,” Rose said. “These include Ed Wagner (10 in the 60s), Michael Rose (2 in the 65s), Michael Beautyman and Ray McNeil (2 and 7 respectively in the 80s), and Wolfgang Harms (2 in the 90s). We are excited to see them and all the others compete at a high level in this national event.”

This event is bringing about 110 players to the area from 24 states and the Province of Ontario. This equates to players from 12 USTA sections being represented.

Divisions with the greatest number of entrants are the 65, 70, and 75 singles divisions, with 18, 16, and 15 competitors, respectively.

Using recommendations from the USTA seeding committee, Rose has published the seeds in the singles divisions. They are: men’s 35 singles #1 Clint Boling (PA) and #2 Jeremy McClelland (Wheeling, WV); men’s 40 singles – round robin; men’s 50 singles – round robin; men’s 55 singles #1 John Tashiro (VT) and #2 Juan Carlos Alvarez de Soto (FL); men’s 60 singles #1 Ed Wagner (FL) and #2 Barton Rubenstein (MD); men’s 65 singles #1 Michael Rose (MI) and #2 Ricahrd Jordan (OH); men’s 70 singles #1 Jeff James (OH)Philip Dubsky (OH); men’s 75 singles #1 Allen Geraci (VA) and #2 Dirk Dugan (NY); men’s 80 singles #1 Michael Beautyman (FL) and #2 John Tibbits (ON); and lastly, men’s 90 singles – round robin.

The four men competing in the men’s 90 singles are Andy Yates (PA), Norman Bloom (PA), Wolfgang Harms (NJ), and Ronald Perdue (OK).

Members of the WOTC who are slated to compete include the following: Jeremy McClelland (35 singles and doubles), Tyler McCullough (35 singles and doubles), Tyler Szafran (35 singles and doubles), Roger Virden (50 singles), Bill Piko (50 doubles), Chad Broadwater (50 doubles), Ned George (55 doubles), Mark Singer (55 doubles), Mark Panepinto (60 singles), Harold Pickens (70 doubles), and Bill Mercer (70 doubles).

The team of McClelland/McCullough, both of Wheeling, will be competing to defend their 35 doubles title from 2025.

This tournament is named for John T. “Jack” Dorsey Jr., who passed away in 2010. Dorsey had a great love for the sport of tennis. He enjoyed competing as well as serving as an ambassador for the sport. Dorsey brought this men’s national to Wheeling and served as its director for 15-plus years.
