WHEELING – An American Arena League showdown will take place Saturday night inside WesBanco Arena when the undefeated Columbus Lions (7-0) visit the Wheeling Miners (4-1). Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

The Georgia-based Lions handed the Miners their lone loss, 46-44, on April 28 in the Peach State. Since then, Wheeling has reeled off victories over the Jersey Bandits, Mississippi Wolfpack, Pittsburgh Outlaws and Maryland War Eagles.

The Miners are led by quarterback Darryl Clark. The Penn State product has led an offense that has scored 133 consecutive points without giving up one since they trailed the Outlaws 6-0.

Clark’s favorite targets include Ranius Daramola and Alex Coleman.

Defensively, the Miners posted a 71-0 shutout last week after a 62-6 victory the week before.

The Lions are coming off an 88-20 whipping of the Carolina Predators last week. They are led by 6-3, 230-pound quarterback Blaine Espinosa who played collegiately at Thomas More University and Lindsey Wilson College.

So far this season, Espinosa has passed for 25 touchdowns and run for six more. In the prior meeting with the Miners, Espinosa passed for a pair of TDs while running for four.

The 46 points scored by Columbus in their win over the Miners is their lowest total of the season. They have accounted for 1,192 passing yards and 99 rushing for a total of 1,291. They are 10-for-14 on third down conversions. Defensively, the Lions have allowed 581 yards through the air and 150 on the ground. They have stopped the opposition on 32 of 50 red zone snaps.

Wheeling led 160-121 in total yards in the first contest.
