50-Year Reunion Unites Players From 1976 OVAC Game

WHEELING - Fifty years ago West Virginia defeated Ohio in the 30th annual OVAC Rudy Mumley All Star Football Game, 33-20, at Wheeling Island Stadium.

Saturday night, 26 players and coaches who participated in that contest will be recognized during the first quarter of the 80th annual mid-summer classic.

Both head coaches are deceased. They were Jim Thomas of Wheeling Central and Ron Pobolish of Cadiz.

Members of the West Virginia team returning are John Bonar, Rick Ebbert and Pete Magnone from Bishop Donahue; Jeff Cecil of John Marshall; Linsly's Paul Peluchette; Jeff Kreider of Oak Glen; Paden City's Mark Feldmeier; Rick Straub and Doug Yandrich of Triadelphia; the Weir tandem of Bob Garan and Sheldon Grace; and Wheeling Central's trio of Mark Coleman, Jack Palmer and Tom Gompers. Coaches are Tom Hogan and George Bell.

Members of the Ohio squad returning include Bellaire St. John's John Vavrek; Bridgeport's duo of Pooge Adams and Bob St. John; Bill Jones and Clint Sanders from Jefferson Union; Martins Ferry's John Miller; and St. Clairsville duo of John Laipple and Rick Vazquez. Assistant Coach Terry Snively of Powhatan will also be in attendance.

Only one Queen's candidate will return, that being Lisa Saragusano Greathouse from Jefferson Union.

Saturday Night's Referees

Bob Mills will serve as the referee. His crew is as follows:

Curt Babiczuk (umpire); Jimmy Sperlazza (back judge); Lance Rice (linesman); Troy Fitzpatrick (line judge); Chris Case (side judge) and Vince Levi (field judge). Replay officials are Michael Lee and Ricky Moore, while the honorary referee is Paul Vargo.
