Forecast Not Shiny Bright For OVAC Game

By KIM NORTH 1 min read

WHEELING - Weather forecasts for Saturday night could put a damper on the festivities surrounding the 80th annual OVAC Rudy Mumley All Star Football Game inside Wheeling Island Stadium.

According to Game Director Corey Murphy, plans are still intact for the start of the game at 7:15 p.m., but with weather forecasts calling for severe thunderstorms, damaging wind and flash flooding could be possible.

"I just talked with a meteorologist that told us there will be two waves (of storms) starting at approximately 5:30 p.m., but they will be moving through pretty quickly," Murphy said in a telephone interview Friday afternoon. "He said we should then be good until about halftime."

Murphy added that the game could be delayed and then resumed when conditions clear up, but it all depends on the weather.

Weather has played a factor in previous games, with the 1992 game rained out.

According to reports, an attempt to move the game up to Friday night was unsuccessful.

Due to the extreme heat and intense smoke from the Canadian wildfires, practices were moved from Wheeling University's Bishop Schmitt Field to The Highlands indoor facility on Thursday and Friday.

Starting at /week.
