COLUMBUS - Five OVAC boys basketball teams and eight OVAC girls basketball teams will be playing in different divisions next winter.
The Ohio High School Athletic Association Tuesday announced the new divisional breakdowns for the upcoming winter sports tournaments. Wrestling divisional breakdowns will be announced in the fall.
In May, schools were given the opportunity to move up to Division I. The divisional breakdowns linked below reflect any schools that opted up to Division I in that sport.
The 2026-27 school year will be the first of a new two-year enrollment cycle using data provided by the Ohio Department of Education. Girls and boys basketball also goes through the OHSAA competitive balance process.
Locally on the boys side, Steubenville, fresh off an appearance in the Division III state championship game, will compete in Division IV, while St. Clairsville and Union Local will move from Division V to Division IV. Edison goes from Division IV to Division V and River switches from Division VI to Division VII.
On the girls side, Steubenville also makes the move from D-III to D-IV, while Harrison Central and St. Clairsville will switch from D-IV to D-V. Monroe Central goes from D-VI to D-V and Shadyside from D-VI to D-VII. Bridgeport, Caldwell and River are moving from D-VII to D-VI.
