St. Clairsville Rolls Past Steubenville

MARIETTA - St. Clairsville Post 159 opened American Legion Region 4 Tournament action with a convincing, 12-1, victory over Steubenville Post 33 Tuesday night at Pioneer Park on the campus of Marietta College. The contest was halted after four-and-a-half innings due to the mercy rule.

With the victory, Post 159 advances to Wednesday's semifinal against Beverly-Lowell at 4 p.m. in the double-elimination event.

Dylan Blon rapped a trio of singles to drive in four runs for St. Clairsville. Winning pitcher Eligah Hill, Roby Hanna and Matheson King all singled twice, with Hill driving in a run.

Eli Smith doubled home two runs and Rowan Mellott knocked in a pair with a single. Jaxon Starks belted a solo home run and Caiden Bailey singled in a run.

Hill went three innings, striking out three and walking one. Miller struck out three and issued two walks in an inning, while Starks finished out the game with a strikeout. They combined on a three-hitter.

Steubenville falls into the loser's bracket. It plays the loser of Game 5 - Beverly-Lowell and St. Clairsville - on Thursday at 4 p.m.

Barton Eliminates Maynard

MAYNARD - Veteran Jesse Nixon pitched into the seventh inning Monday night as the fourth-seeded Braves (8-12) eliminated the top-seeded Indians, 4-1, in Game 2 of an Ohio Valley Baseball League best-of-3 semifinal playoff on Firemen's Field inside the Community Park.

Nixon struck out two and walked a pair as he and reliever, Gavyn Romanyak, combined on a three-hitter.

Ben Taylor and Will Balgo each drove in a run with two singles for Barton. Dom Gorrence and Shane Smolenak each singled in a run. Jack Selmon belted a double.

Barton, the defending champion, will play the winner of No. 2 Bethany and No. 3 Colerain. That semifinal series is tied at a game apiece.
