GLADE SPRINGS -- After entering the final round of the 93rd West Virginia Open Championship at The Resort at Glade Springs, Follannsbee native Ryan Bilby was overtaken Friday to finish as runner-up at the three-day contest, finishing behind Bridgeport native Mason Williams.
Williams shot a 68 on Friday to finish his three rounds with a 206 total-- 10 below Par. It is his first time winning the W.Va. Open.
Bilby shot a 72 to finish at a 209 gross. He finished two strokes ahead of David Bradshaw, hailing from Harpers Ferry. All three are professionals. Fourth-place Cam Roam was the highest-placing amateur at 213.
Six players from Wheeling made the final cut for Friday. They are as follows:
Campbell Koegler finished 30th out of 61 competitors with a 227. Bryan Myers was a stroke behind, tied for 31st. Thaddeus Obecny II shot a 231 across his three days to tie for 41st. Adam Gill finished at a 235 to tie for 48th. Justin Doerr shot a 238 and finished in 56th. Andrew Pennybacker wrapped up a 241 to tie for 60th.
Edison Opens With A Win
MINERVA -- The Edison girls golf team opened its season Friday with a 177-217 victory against United at Edgewater Golf Course in Minerva.
Leading the Wildcats was Kallie McKeegan with a low round of 39. Bella Evans followed with a 42, Mady Cornell a 47 and Teagan Reynolds added a 49 to round out the team score.
The Wildcats will play next in their home opener on Tuesday, as they host Harrison Central at Spring Hills Golf Club. Tee time is set for 9 a.m.

Steubenville Starts Season With Victory Over Creek
STEUBENVILLE -- The Ohio high school golf season teed off on Thursday and Steubenville Big Red notched a win over Indian Creek to open its season victorious.
Taking on Creek at Steubenville Country Club on opening morning, Big Red fired a team score of 164, which was 26 strokes better than the Redskins to take the season-opening victory in the nine-hole duel match.
The win also gives new Big Red golf coach Joe Garay his first win as the team’s head coach.
Steubenville was led by match medalist Andrew Matzorkis with a low score of a one-over par 37. Noah Kokiko followed with a 41 and Jaggar Rawson turned in a 42, while three Steubenville golfers -- Joel Elliot, Patrick Jenkins and Gino Scaffidi -- each carded a score of 44.
For Indian Creek, Riley Guskea was just behind Matzorkis with a three-over 39 for the second best score of the day. Also for the Redskins, Garrin Clark followed close behind with a 40, Maddox Barrrett had a 52 and David Pawelczyk shot a 59.
Big Red is back in action on Monday at Pymatuning Valley.
